Salisbury
sweeps Thomson Invitational against strong Division II and III field
NEWARK, Del. –
The Salisbury University indoor track and field team swept the Division II and
III team competition at the Thomson Invitational on Saturday at the University
of Delaware. The Sea Gulls edged out national powerhouse Lincoln (Pa.)
University in both the men's and women's team standings. Salisbury's men's team
won 177-170 over Lincoln while the SU women's team won by six points, 108-102,
over the Lions.
The Sea Gulls set three school
records on the day as well. On the men's side freshman Justin Acker set the new
school mark in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.12 seconds which was good for
second place in the event.
On the women's side the Sea
Gulls broke the school record in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:24.03.
On the record breaking team was Kelly and Glenna Sullivan, Jenn Bulger
and Casey McInerny. SU freshman Ashley Macintosh set the other school
record in the 60 meter dash (8.60 seconds) during the preliminary round.
The host Blue Hens won the
women's Division I competition while in-state neighbor Delaware State won the
men's team competition.
The Sea
Gulls will next compete at the Mason-Dixon Indoor Championships on Sunday, February 18,
at Christopher Newport University. The competition begins at 9 a.m.
