finish second at Mason-Dixon Conference Indoor Championships On the women's side, sophomore Jessica Carey became the first Sea Gull in over 25 years to qualify for nationals. Carey, a local product from Parkside High School, finished second in the high jump as she cleared 1.64 meters (5-4 1/2 feet). That height ranks 15th in the country and she provisionally qualifies for the NCAA championships. Salisbury had four first place finishes in the meet led by the distance medley relay team of Kelly and Glenna Sullivan, Casey McInerney and Jenn Bulger, who ran away from the competition and finished nearly 40 second ahead of second place Catholic University with a time of 13:08.58. Bulger took home first place honors in the long jump with a jump of 4.84 meters. Kelly Sullivan won the 5,000 meter run by nearly 20 seconds with a time of 18:53.03 and McInerney won the 800 meter run (2:24.92). For the first-time ever the Sea Gulls finished in front of the University of Mary Washington in this meet. The Sea Gulls accumulated 93 points while the Eagles came in fifth with 61. Capital Athletic Conference member Catholic came in fourth with 65 points. The men had one first place finish and finished second in six other events. Eric Graves took the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:38.75, 14 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Josh Michael finished less than two seconds behind Mary Washington's Matt Cash in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.22. The 4x400 meter relay team of Michael, Colton Vander Vilet, Marcus Tines and Samuel Singleton was narrowly edged out by CNU to finish second with a time of 3:26.51. The men also finished second in the distance medley relay as Zack Dickerson, Roland Lane, Adam Cook and Dustin Yourstone with a time of 11:15.16. In high jump Bobby Price had a jump of 1.91 meters and Brandon Fugett had a throw of 13.83 meters in the shot put as they both finished in second. The Sea Gulls posted 104 points in 15 events while CAC foes Mary Washington (44 points) and Catholic (22) came in fourth and fifth place, respectively. The men and women combined for five school records at the meet. Sullivan and Graves each tallied school records in the 5,000 meter runs. Price and Carey each set new school marks in the high jump and Bulger set a new record in the women's long jump. The Sea Gulls return to the track on Sunday, February 25, as they travel to Fairfax, Va., to participate in the George Mason University Winter Games. | ||||||||||||||||
