SU men sweep CAC awards as Gulls earn 34
All-CAC honors
ST. MARY'S CITY,
Md. - The Capital Athletic Conference released its 2007 all-conference teams
for men's and women's track and field and Salisbury University was well
represented. The SU men's team, the four-time defending conference champions,
swept the three major CAC awards and had 17 student-athletes and one relay team
selected as All-CAC. The SU women's team had 14 student-athletes and two relay
teams named to the All-CAC team and won the CAC Rookie of the Year.
Junior
Samuel Singleton was named the 2007 CAC Men's Track and Field Athlete of the
Year. Singleton won the 200 and 400 meter dash at the CAC championships and his
time of 22.11 in the 200 set a new CAC championship record. Freshman Quentin
Briscoe was selected as the 2007 CAC Men's Track and Field Rookie of the
Year. Briscoe won the triple jump as he landed with a distance of 44 feet and
won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.75 at the CAC championships. SU
coach Jim Jones was selected by his peers for the fourth consecutive year
as the CAC Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year.
On the
women's side, freshman Victoria Lawson was selected as the 2007 CAC
Women's Track and Field Rookie of the Year.
Lawson won both the 200 and
400 meter dash at the CAC championships. Her latter time of 58.38 in the 400 set
a new CAC championship record. She was also a member of the SU 400 and 1600
meter relay first place teams. University of Mary Washington won the Athlete and Coach of the Year
awards.
To earn
All-CAC honors a student-athlete must finish first or second in their respective
events at the CAC championships. Salisbury's men's team won the CAC title with 263.33 points
while Mary Washington edged out SU by four points for the Eagles' 14th straight
conference title back on April 21 in Salisbury, Md.
