SU women win, men fall in dual meet versus York
SALISBURY, Md. –
The Salisbury women’s swimming team improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the
Capital Athletic Conference with its 153-109 win over York College (Pa.) on
Saturday afternoon at the Maggs Center. The Sea Gull men fell to 2-5 (1-3 CAC)
with their 159-103 loss to the Spartans.
Senior
Laura Allen had another outstanding meet with three first-place finishes
individually and another on the 200 medley relay team. Allen won the 100
breaststroke, the 200 breast and the 400 individual medley. Her relay teammates
Raienne South, Laura Kordzikowski and Hilary Yates also
swam well. South notched a first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:19.30.
Kordzikowski touched first in the 50 freestyle just edging fellow Sea Gull
sophomore Janine Ferrari by a few tenths of a second. Yates was the top
Salisbury finisher in the 400 freestyle with a mark of 5:09.89.
To
complete the victory, SU grabbed first and second in the 200 free relay as the
first-place team of Kordzikowski, Ferrari, Erin Smith and Maureen
Gillespie finished under two minutes at 1:58.92.
On the
men’s side, freshman Mike Ferrari had both of the Sea Gull first-place
finishes, one in the 100 breaststroke and the other in the 200 breast. Senior
Mike Fowler placed second in the 50 free, and his twin brother Steve
Fowler claimed third place in the 200 breast and the 100 breast.
The Sea
Gulls have a long winter break before they head back into the pool. Their next
meet isn’t until January 6, 2007 when they travel to Frederick, Md. to face Hood
College.
