Sea Gulls earn split in 2006-07 debut
WASHINGTON, D.C. –
The 2006-07 Salisbury University swimming season kicked off Saturday afternoon
at Gallaudet University in the nation's capital with a split outcome for the Sea
Gulls.
The
Salisbury men's and women's teams came away with a victory against the host
Bison but both squads lost handily to defending Capital Athletic Conference
champions and perennial swimming powerhouse University of Mary Washington.
The SU
men's team (1-1 overall, 1-1 CAC) defeated Gallaudet, 76-18, but lost 66-27 to
Mary Washington. On the women's side, SU (1-1 overall, 1-1 CAC) defeated
Gallaudet, 74-21, and lost 76-19 to the Eagles.
Salisbury
senior Cole Mangum had a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle to pace
the men's team. Freshman Mike Ferrari made a splash in his collegiate
debut with two second place finishes (50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke). The Sea
Gulls also got second place finishes from junior Ross Spangler (100
freestyle and 200 freestyle), sophomore Jamie Overholt (100 butterfly)
and freshman Sean Snee (1,000 freestyle).
Senior
Laura Allen had an impressive afternoon for the SU women's team as she won
the 200 IM and came in second in the 100 yard breaststroke. Sophomores Kerry Anne
Farrell (1,000 freestyle) and Laura Kordzikowski (50 freestyle)
earned second place finishes in their respective events. Kordzikowski joined
Erin Smith, Lindsey Southworth and Janine Ferrari in a second
place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.
Salisbury will open up its home schedule at 6 p.m., Tuesday, October
31, when the Sea Gulls host Rowan University.
