Salisbury seniors shine on Senior Day
SALISBURY, Md. - It was a memorable Senior Day for
several Salisbury University swimmers on Saturday afternoon at the Maggs Center
where the Sea Gulls hosted St. Mary's (Md.) College in a Capital Athletic
Conference meet. The SU men's team defeated St. Mary's 128-77 while the women's
team lost by eight points, 107-99, to the visiting Sea Hawks.
SU senior
Cole Mangum took home a first-place finish in the 50 free (25.09) and was part
of two first-place relay teams, 200 medley relay (1:58.26) and 200 free relay
(1:41.42). Fellow senior Mike Fowler came away with a first-place showing in the
100 free (56.85) and was a member of the 200 free relay team. The Sea Gulls won
seven of the 11 events.
Freshman
Mike Ferrari won two events, the 100 breaststroke (1:12.25) and the 100
backstroke (1:07.93), and he was also a member of the 200 medley relay team.
Sophomore Jaime Overholt won the 200 IM with a time of 2:30.12.
On the
women's side, the Sea Gulls only won three of the 11 events but had a lot of
second and third place performances to keep SU into the meet until the end.
Senior Laura Allen shined once again as she came away with two first-place
finishes. Allen won the 100 breaststroke (1:19.56) and the 800 freestyle
(9:59.38). The other first-place finish came from senior Hillary Yates who
touched the wall first in the 400 freestyle (4:59.27).
Salisbury
will not have a lot of time to rest as the Sea Gulls jump back in the pool
tomorrow (Sunday, January 21 at 1 p.m.) as they travel to Towson, Md., to face
Goucher College.
