Salisbury sweeps Hood to kick-off 2nd half of season
FREDERICK, Md. – The Salisbury swimming team ventured back into the pool on Saturday afternoon at Hood College and came away with a sweep of the Blazers to start the second half of the 2006-07 season. The Sea Gulls won the men's meet 133-60 and the women's meet 144-60, the two highest margins of victory for the Gulls this season, to secure Capital Athletic Conference victories.

The SU women's team (4-4 overall, 3-2 CAC) had an impressive showing as the Gulls took home first-place finishes in eight of the 11 events. Senior Laura Allen and sophomore Raienne South led the way with two first-place finishes each. Allen won the 200 IM (2:24.87) and the 100 breaststroke (1:13.37) while South was the first to the wall in the 100 butterfly (1:06.81) and 200 freestyle (2:06.97). The other first place finishers for SU were freshmen Maureen Gillespie (100 freestyle) and Lindsay Southworth (100 backstroke). The Sea Gulls also won two relays (200 Medley and 200 Free).

On the men's side, the Sea Gulls (3-5, 2-3) won seven of the 11 events. Junior Ross Spangler took home two first-place victories for the maroon and gold. Spangler won the 200 freestyle (1:55.76) and the 500 freestyle (5:28.72). Salisbury won two relay events (200 Medley and 200 Free) while freshman Mike Ferrari won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.28). The Sea Gulls also won the 100 butterfly with Jaime Overholt's first-place finish (1:03.27) and Mike Fowler won the 100 freestyle (52.45).

Salisbury will next be in action on Saturday, January 13, at home as conference foe Catholic University pays a visit to the Maggs Center.
