Moravian to Top Final Day Action Salisbury,
Md. - Seven of the 12 games played on the final day of the Ninth Annual Sea Gull
Invitational Softball Tournament were shutouts. Four teams finished with 3-1
records, including Salisbury, Moravian, Wilkes and Rutgers-Camden, while four
teams finished with 2-2 records and four finished 1-3. In
the showdown of the day, No. 2 Salisbury defeated No. 2 Moravian, 3-1. Sophomore
Tee Dronenburg secured the Sea
Gulls’ victory with a bottom of the ninth homer to right center-field. Senior
hurler Lacey Lister led the SU
defense. She picked up her seventh win of the season, while allowing four
hits and striking out eight. Saturday’s Wrap-up: Moravian 8, Lynchburg 0
– Moravian
pitcher Meagan Hennessy picked up the win for the Greyhounds. She allowed
just two hits while striking out nine. Leading Moravian’s offensive attack was
Lauren Homa who went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs
scored. Recording
the loss was Lynchburg’s Erin Force, who gave up two runs on four hits
and recorded zero strikeouts. Wilkes 3, Oneonta 1 –
Wilkes pitcher Laura Agresti earned
the win for the Colonels. She allowed one run on three hits and recorded 14
strikeouts. Jan Nunemacher led the
Colonels at the plate with her two run home run, while Alexis
Petite went 2-for-3 from the plate including an RBI. Despite the loss,
Oneonta’s Erica Gifford recorded a
home run. Rutgers-Camden
7, Christopher Newport 0 – Junior
hurler Michele Schlichtig allowed one
hit, gave up four walks and struck out 12 as the Scarlet Raptors shutout the
Captains 7-0. Megan Rulon led the
Scarlet Raptors offense, going 4-for-4 at the plate including two doubles. York
8, Kings 4 – Shannon Fry recorded the win
on the mound for York. She allowed three runs on four hits and struck out three
players. Leading York at the plate was Laura Hauck, who was 2-for-4 including a double, a home run and
three RBI. Two other York batters picked up home runs, including Harper
Cornell and Becky Wimer. Kristin
Brady and Annie Drimones led the Kings offense. Brady was 1-for-4 including a
triple and two RBI, while Drimones was 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBI. Salisbury 3, Moravian 1
– Dronenburg
secured the win for Salisbury with her two-run home run in the bottom of the
ninth inning. Senior Leslie
White aided the Sea Gulls’ offensive attack, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Senior hurler Lacey Lister led the
Sea Gulls for nine innings. She picked up her seventh win of the season, while
allowing four hits and striking out eight. Moravian pitcher Meagan
Hennessy (4-2) gave up three
runs, two of which were earned, and six hits. Oneonta
4, Cabrini 2 – Oneonta’s Kacie
Cunningham recorded the win on mound, allowing two runs on eight hits and
striking out six. At bat Cunningham went 1-for-3 and registered two RBI. Leading
the Red Dragons’ offensive attack was Michele Norwich who went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Lauren
Cull and Brittany
Liberator were the only players to score for Cabrini. Liberator was
1-for-3, while Cull finished 1-for-4 at the plate. Rutgers-Camden
10, Manhattanville 0 – Becky Johnson led
at the plate and on the pitcher’s mound as the Scarlet Raptors shutout
Manhattanville, 10-0. Johnson allowed five hits and struck out seven. She also
led the Scarlet Raptors with five RBI. Kings
3, Va. Wesleyan 0 – Nikki Kotula
threw a three-hitter to lead Kings past Va. Wesleyan. She struck out five while
allowing three walks. Kotula was 3-for-4 at the plate, while teammate Kae
Shiffer led with 2 RBI. Lynchburg 2, Salisbury 1 - Picking up the win for the Hornets was senior hurler Jennifer Overstreet who improves to 4-2 overall. Overstreet allowed one run on three hits and struck out seven. She also recorded an RBI, while teammate Hayley Gordon went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Despite the loss, junior Erin Ruest led the Sea Gulls at the plate, going 1-for-2 including an RBI single. The only other players to get hits for Salisbury were sophomore Serena Fleming and senior Kareem Falcon. Cabrini
8,Wilkes 0 – Cabrini’s
Kim Fox struck out six and allowed just three hits in the Cavaliers’
shutout over the Colonels. Leading the Cavaliers was Megan O’Brien who
had a perfect 3-for-3 outing. Jenn Prendiville and Mary Adam each
hit home runs to aid the Cavaliers offensive attack. Picking
up the loss for Wilkes was pitcher Sarah Playchak. She allowed six runs
on seven hits and recorded two strike outs. Manhattanville
1, Christopher Newport 0 – With
it tied 0-0 in the ninth, Manhattanville’s Trina Ramsdell hit a
home-run to left field to seal the win for the Valiants. Virginia
Wesleyan 7, York 0 –
Becky Sowell led Virginia Wesleyan past York on both the mound and at the
plate. Sowell paced the defense allowing five hits and striking out six. At the
plate she was 1-for-2 including a home run and two RBI. Also coming up big at
the plate were Lindsey Churchill and Megan Belch. Churchill was
2-for-4, had a home run and recorded two RBI. Belch was 1-for-3, had a double
and two RBI as well. Final
