McGowan, Spartans Deal Sea Gulls Conference Defeat
YORK, Pa. - The Salisbury University men’s basketball team fell, 84-74, to York College (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 890. The defeat was the fifth straight Capital Athletic Conference loss for Salisbury and the seventh in the last eight games overall.

The Sea Gulls (9-9, 4-5 CAC) never led in the second half and trailed by as much as ten points but battled back to tie the game at 64 with seven minutes left after a flurry of jumpers by senior Segun Odumeru (15 points, four rebounds). The Spartans (12-7, 6-4 CAC), powered by 30 points from junior forward Chad McGowan, answered instantly with a 7-0 run and regained the lead for good.

The Gulls were led by point guard Devin Jones who poured in 21 points with 5-7 shooting from three-point range. The Spartans had Joe Yeck and Nate Lankford score in double figures to complement McGowan. The two York guards combined to go 5-7 from downtown.

York held an advantage from the free throw line by going 9-10. The Sea Gulls struggled from the charity stripe, shooting 6-15. The Spartans piled up 23 assists on 32 field goals made.

SU split the season series with YCP as they won 93-81 at home on December 2, but the Sea Gulls failed to complete the sweep.

Salisbury returns to the hardwood to host CAC opponent Goucher on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. The Gulls hope to find the winning formula that propelled them to a 4-0 start early in conference play.
