Timely 2nd half shooting lifts Sea Gulls over Spartans
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men’s basketball team started its Capital Athletic Conference play with a come-from-behind win against a tough York College (Pa.) team, 93-81, Saturday afternoon at Maggs Center in front of crowd of 451.

The Sea Gulls (5-2, 1-0 CAC) started the second half on fire with three early three pointers, two from sophomore Devin Jones (17 points, five rebounds, three assists) and one from CAC leading scorer Ray Williams (13 points, three rebounds, five assists). SU quickly cut into the YCP (3-2, 1-1 CAC) nine point lead and went up two with 17:30 minutes left in the game.

The two teams traded leads until Jones nailed his fourth three with 13 minutes left to put the Gulls up two. SU pushed its lead to 12 and never looked back.

Salisbury had all five starters score in double figures and received big games from forwards Frank Gerald (15 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist) and Ozi Menakaya (14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists). Senior Segun Odumeru added 13 of his 16 points in the second half to rally the Gulls.

The Spartans were led by their man in the middle Chad McGowan who had a game high 34 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Nick Brady added 12 points off the bench.

Salisbury trailed at halftime 47-38 due to eight first half turnovers and early foul trouble for Williams and Menakaya.

The Sea Gulls snapped a two-game losing streak and will travel to Towson, Md. for a conference game against Goucher College at 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 6.
