Malone comes through late, Sea Gulls beat Gophers
TOWSON, Md.
- The Salisbury University men’s soccer team beat Capital Athletic Conference
opponent Goucher College for the 10th straight time (dating back to 1998) on
Wednesday afternoon with a 1-0 shutout. This is the ninth time the Sea Gulls
have shutout the Gophers in the past 10 matches.
Salisbury
(7-2-1, 3-2 CAC) broke the scoreless tie in the 83rd minute with an unassisted
goal off the foot of forward Nick Malone past Goucher goalie Tom
Feuerstein (14 saves). The goal was the sophomore’s team-leading sixth score of
the season.
SU senior
goalkeeper Scott McGuire (four saves) got the start and earned his fifth
win of the year along with his second shutout.
The Gulls
dominated the shot taking in the second half with 17 shots compared to only
three by the Gophers (6-6, 2-3 CAC). Senior T.J. Nairn and the rest of
the Salisbury defense did not give up any shots on goal in the second half.
The
match was Salisbury’s first match away from home since September 10. The Sea
Gulls stay on the road and take on the University of Mary Washington at 3 p.m.,
Saturday, October 7, in a CAC match.
