Kroening leads the
way for the Sea Gulls in victory
RALEIGH, N.C. -
The 25th-ranked Salisbury University men's soccer team kicked off the Esprit
D-III Classic Friday night with a win against Eastern Mennonite University, 2-1.
The
Royals' (2-2-0) scored first on a Ben Yoder goal off an assist from sophomore
Junior Kamandua. The Sea Gulls (2-0-1) quickly answered in the 25th minute with
a strike from sophomore forward Nick Malone, set up by senior Scott
Forney and junior David Kroening (one goal, one assist).
In the
second half, Kroening chipped in the game-winner off an assist from sophomore
Scott Sparrow.
Sea Gull
goalie Scott McGuire (four saves) out dueled opposing keeper Jackson
Maust (three saves) as EMU outshot SU 7-6 and the Royals took five more corners
(10-5).
The Sea
Gulls with return to action in the Esprit D-III Classic on Sunday, September
10th against Capital University at Noon.
