Salisbury wins both
games at Esprit D-III Classic
RALEIGH, N.C. -
The Salisbury University men's soccer team finished the Esprit D-III Classic on
Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 tournament record thanks to a 1-0 shutout of Capital
University.
The two
teams were scoreless until the 71st minute when Salisbury freshman Kyle Sterling
found the back of the net off an assist from junior midfielder Zach Grubb. The
Salisbury, Md., native’s first goal of the season was setup off one of SU’s 12
corner kicks.
Salisbury
(3-0-1) took nine shots in the game as Crusader sophomore John Snyder made
eights saves in goal for Capital (2-2-1).
The Sea
Gulls defeated Eastern Mennonite University on the first day of the tournament
this past Friday with a 2-1 victory.
Salisbury now has a week to prepare to host York College, the 8th
ranked and defending Capital Athletic Conference champions, on Saturday,
September 16th at 2 p.m.
The last
time these two teams met was in the 2005 CAC championship game where the
Spartans prevailed 1-0 at the SU Soccer Complex. York (2-0-1) has a busy week
prior to meeting the Sea Gulls as the Spartans face Hood College and Lynchburg
College. The Spartans are coming off a 1-1 tie against top-ranked Messiah
College.
