Salisbury shows it mettle on national course, both teams get third
WAYNESBURG, Pa. –
The Salisbury University men's and women's cross country teams finished third on
Saturday morning at the Waynesburg Invitational as both teams finished right
behind nationally ranked opponents.
The
Salisbury men's team accumulated 71 points as it finished behind Carnegie Mellon
University (40 pts.) and Allegheny College (54 pts.) in the 13 team field.
Senior
Will Murdoch and junior Eric Graves finished fourth and fifth, respectively, as
the Sea Gulls placed three runners in the top-10. Murdoch completed the course
with a time of 26:31 as Graves followed 11 seconds behind. Junior Buck Stokes
crossed the line in 10th with a time of 26:58.
On the
women's side, the Sea Gulls placed three runners in the top-12 spots and totaled
90 team points to earn the third place finish behind Dickinson (44 pts.) and
Allegheny (78) in the 14 team field.
Sophomore
twin sisters Kelly and Glenna Sullivan led the way for the Sea Gulls as Kelly
finished fourth (22:56), behind two All-American runners, and Glenna crossed the
line at 23:34. Fellow sophomore Amanda Hill was 12th with a time of 24:12.
Salisbury
plans on returning to Waynesburg in two months as the course is the site of the
NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships which will be held on November
11.
