Previous Page Sea Gulls knock off No. 10 Red Hawks SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 26 Salisbury University baseball team battled back from four separate deficits and took its first and only lead in the fifth inning as the Sea Gulls went on to beat No. 10 Montclair State University, 15-10, at Sea Gull Field in front of 150. Salisbury (9-1) scored six runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning behind seven singles to gain a 10-5 lead. Montclair (0-1) scored three runs in the seventh to cut the lead to two runs but Salisbury answered with run in the seventh and tacked on two in the eighth to ensure the victory. Junior right hander Ryan Bennick (3-0) notched his team-high tying third win as he went five innings, struck out five, and surrendered seven runs and one walk. Sophomore Adam Keeling picked up the save on two and a third innings pitched as he gave up one hit and added three strikeouts. Every Sea Gull batter recorded at least one hit and seniors Andrew Jensen (three runs, triple) and Alex Vitale each contributed three hits and two RBI to lead the offense. Vitale was a triple shy of the cycle with a single, his fifth double of the season, and his first round-tripper. SU catcher Pete Callahan threw out four-of-four MSU runners attempting to steal which included two in the fourth inning when Montclair tried to break the 4-4 tie. Salisbury, stole two bases led by junior Mark Bostwick’s team-high sixth steal to remain a perfect 19-of-19 in base stealing attempts on the season. The Red Hawks’ finished fourth a season ago in the NCAA Division III World Series. MSU defeated SU twice last season, 9-2 and 5-3. Salisbury will try to sweep the two-game series when the two teams meet again at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 4, at Sea Gull field
