Manufacturing Culture: Representation and the Black Collectable
February 16 – April 9

Robert Smith, associate professor in the Communication and Theatre Arts Department, has collected Black memorabilia for over 15 years and has utilized it in presentations as a means of opening dialogue about race and perception.
The exhibit features 19th and 20th century memorabilia highlighting the basic, pervasive stereo-types found in the Black collectables market. Assisting with the research and installation are Smith’s Salisbury University colleagues Dr. Clara Small (History Department) and Dave Shuhy (Communications and Theatre Arts Department).

Light & Shadow: Nature’s Narrative
February 27 – April 9

This exhibit features the works of local photographers Rita Tiso and Dave Ganoe. While they approach their subject matter from differing perspectives, they each use the nuances of light and shadow to illustrate “Nature’s Narrative.”
Both artists’ feel that beauty is in commonplace. “It is everywhere! All you need to do is be more aware of your surroundings to see it.” Even though they photograph different subject matter, they both use the lens as a means of profound communication with nature.

Paintings By Wilhelm Goebel, Wildlife Artist

An exhibit of oil and acrylic paintings by Will Goebel, wildlife artist. Goebel was 1997 Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year, the artist of the 1996-97 Federal Duck Stamp, as well as a State Duck Stamp, as well as a State Duck Stamp winner in Maryland and other states.

Senior Art Show
April 16 – May 14
Opening Reception: Friday, April 16, 6-8 p.m.

Sponsored by the Salisbury University Art Department, the exhibit features both the graphic and fine art projects of students enrolled in the Senior Seminar course taught by Paul Flexner. The class is a requirement for all art majors and provides professional art experience through different activities to second semester juniors and seniors at SU.

Brooke Rogers, Paint to Paper

In this exhibit sponsored by the SU Art Department, spirited forms and energetic color meet up in outsized gouache on paper paintings- some as large as eight feet wide. Derived from such varied sources as Roman art, Color Field paintings and cartoons, the works in this exhibit explore the curious region where paining meets poetry.

An exhibit of bronzes and carvings from those entered in the Ward World’s Competition and pieces by other regional artists.

Artists’ Co-op 2004

The artists’ in the Co-op are a group of widely recognized, local art professionals whose interests and passions are illustrated in their art. Their works vary in both media and style. This exhibit features an outstanding selection of paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photography, mixed media and digital prints. Many of the artists in the Co-op have shown both nationally and abroad, winning individual awards in solo juried shows.
