BFA - hot glass

I believe I connected with glass as a means of artistic expression because the process of creating handmade glass is very much a reflection on how artists like myself choose to live our lives. To me this medium is the extreme sport of the world and while living life on the edge isn't for everybody, glass is for the artist that needs more. I knew that my hands were meant to touch glass the first time I went to gather and I felt the danger and excitement resonating on the hot breathe of the furnace. As a glass artist we are challenged with the task of maintaining creative spontaneity while the intense conditions of the hot shop are continuously testing our physical and mental endurance. While the burns, cuts, and sweat are an inevitable part of our creation, it makes the taste of triumph that much sweeter.
