Jinchul Kim was born in South Korea. Before coming to the United States in the
late 1980’s, he earned BFA and MFA degrees from King Sejong University in Seoul.
He then came to the states and settled in New York City where he attended the
School of Visual Arts, earning a second MFA degree in 1992. SVA is one of the
top art schools in New York, and, indeed, in the entire country. After SVA, Mr.
Kim studied for two years at The Art Student’s League, a famous center of
traditional figure painting in downtown New York. In the mid 1990’s Mr. Kim came
to Delmarva. He taught classes at the Rehoboth Art League and the Art League of
Ocean City before coming to Salisbury University in 2006. He heads the Painting
area here at Salisbury, and the work of Painting majors is always a highlight of
the senior shows. Mr. Kim is a very active professional artist. His work has
been exhibited in university and commercial galleries up and down the east coast
of the US, and he has also been included in several major international art
fairs. He is represented by galleries in Korea, China and Washington, DC, as
well as local galleries in Rehoboth Beach and Snow Hill. A solo exhibition of
recent work was in the Atrium Gallery at Salisbury University April 27-May 19,
2012.
