Frederick William
MacMonnies was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of a Scottish
emigrant. As a boy he molded in clay and as a teen he carved
in stone. By age 18 he was working for the studio of Augustus
Saint-Gaudens.
In 1884 MacMonnies left for Paris intending
to become a painter; however, once there, MacMonnies won several
important European prizes as a Master Sculptor.
Pan of Rohallion is located in the walkway connecting the Guerrieri
University Center and the Commons.
