Sassafras albidum (Nutt.) Nees is a deciduous tree, native to eastern
North America from Ontario east to Maine, and south to Florida
and west to Texas. The roots have been used to make root beer.
Sassafras is also used in Cajun cooking. Gumbos
are flavoured with filé (fillet) powder, which is composed
of dried and ground sassafras leaves. |
