Listed below are AmeriCorps member responsibilities at each of our service sites.  Please refer to the organizational website for more information about the agency or specific agency programs. 

 

Wicomico County

 

Center 4 Clean Start - Salisbury, Maryland 

One part-time member has been selected to care for and interact with infants and toddlers while the children's mothers are in addictions counseling. The member will provide general care and supervision along with foster grandparents (program is part of the Worcester Health Department).

College Career Access Program (CCAP) - Wicomico High School - Salisbury, Maryland

One full-time member has been selected to assist all students at the site but give priority to first generation, low income Gear Up students who seek access to post-secondary educational opportunities.  The member will provide services such as information on college readiness, testing, career selection, college applications, scholarship opportunities, FAFSA and other financial aid applications to students and students' families who express an interest or need at Wicomico High School.

 

Delmar Elementary School - Delmar, Maryland

One full-time member and one part-time member have been selected to assist with small group instruction in the classroom.  They may also be responsible for working one-on-one, assisting with playground duty, and the STARS afterschool program.

Kids of Honor, Inc. - Salisbury, Maryland

One part-time member has been selected for Kids of Honor, a youth-based non-profit that empowers youth to graduate from high school.  The member will facilitate the high school program (Y.E.A.H.) and assist fifteen partner programs in Wicomico County.  Member needs to be available during after-school hours- 3:00 to 6:30 p.m.- in addition to other hours during the week.

 

Salisbury's Promise - Salisbury, Maryland

One part-time member has been selected to fulfill the Five Promises of America's Promise for the youth of Wicomico County. The member will also work to maintain and increase partnerships with local youth-based organizations.

 

Salisbury Urban Ministries - Salisbury, Maryland

One part-time member has been selected to work with children at an after-school program on homework and various activities.  The member will assist the youth coordinator with daily activities, implement programs and help recruit volunteers.

Salisbury Zoological Park - Salisbury, Maryland

One full-time member has been selected to conduct on-site and off-site Zoo education programs designed to foster an understanding of and appreciation for diversity and to encourage environmental stewardship and community-based action designed to improve the world in which we live.  The member will also assist with the care and handling of the education animal collection, volunteer recruitment and training, office tasks and cleaning necessary for educational programming.

St. Andrew's After-School Tutoring Program - Salisbury, Maryland

One part-time member is needed to assess, plan and deliver instruction in reading, math and general school skills for the after-school program for first and second grade students to be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.  The member will monitor the arrival of students from school, make sure they have a snack, supervise and control behavior, manage volunteers and keep contact with school teachers, parents and the oversight committee.

 

Ward Museum - Salisbury, Maryland

One full-time member has been selected to assist with school-based and community outreach programs during the day and after-school hours.  "If you love working with children, the outdoors, conservation, art and heritage this is the place for you!"

Wicomico County Health Department - Salisbury, Maryland

One full-time member has been selected to assist in organization, planning, implementation and evaluation of the GEMS program, Teen Pregnancy Prevention program for middle school females and other Adolescent Health programs.  The member will also update attendance records, shop, file, attend health fairs, assist in health presentation, mentor students, communicate with parents and meet with school officials.

Wicomico Mentoring Project - Salisbury, Maryland

One full-time member has been selected to assist the mentoring coordinator at Salisbury Middle School with all duties of the Wicomico Mentoring Project.  The member will interact with students, school staff and volunteers.

Worcester County

 

Maryland Coastal Bays - Berlin & Ocean City, Maryland

One full-time member has been selected to assist with the Maryland Coastal Bays Education & Minority Outreach program in the planning and implementation of environmental education programs designed to engage students, children and families in quality nature-based learning and exploration.  The member will not only teach program participants about Maryland's coastal bays, but will also help diverse participants build a positive relationship with nature, foster an appreciation of the environment, and inspire behavior changes and actions which will benefit the coastal bays.

Worcester County Health Dept. - Prevention Office - Snow Hill & Berlin, Maryland

Two part-time members have been selected to assist prevention specialists with the provision of prevention services specifically directed towards youth.  Serve with specialist to assist youth in several gender specific groups and after-school programs with a focus on prevention of risk-behaviors (i.e., tobacco use, alcohol or other drugs, etc.).  Also participate in outreach activities to disseminate information concerning these risk behaviors.

Worcester County Health Dept. - Helping Adolescents Recover Today (H.A.R.T.) - Berlin, Snow Hill & Pocomoke, Maryland

One full-time member has been selected to assist with the adolescent addictions program. Member will provide direct and indirect services to youth that are using or are at-risk of using alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs.  Serve directly under the supervision of an Addictions Counselor and may provide services such as case management, youth and family counseling, group work, etc.

Somerset County

 

College Career Access Program (CCAP) - Crisfield High School - Crisfield, Maryland

One full-time member has been chosen to assist all students at the site but give priority to first generation, low income Gear Up students who seek access to post-secondary educational opportunities.  The member will provide services such as information on college readiness, testing, career selection, college applications, scholarship opportunities, FAFSA and other financial aid applications to students and students' families who express an interest or need at Crisfield High School.

 

College Career Access Program (CCAP) - Washington High School - Princess Anne, Maryland

One full-time member has been chosen to assist all students at the site but give priority to first generation, low income Gear Up students who seek access to post-secondary educational opportunities.  The member will provide services such as information on college readiness, testing, career selection, college applications, scholarship opportunities, FAFSA and other financial aid applications to students and students' families who express an interest or need at Washington High School.

 

Caroline County

Caroline County Recreation & Parks - Lifelong Learning Center After-school Program - Denton, Maryland

One full-time member has been selected to assist with service learning projects for students.  Past service learning projects have included family math and reading study bags for elementary students, clean up of cemeteries, gift baskets for foster children.  AmeriCorps member will help staff facilitate similar projects and, hopefully, accomplish many more meaningful projects in the community.

 





 

 

 

 

The PALS program is currently recruiting sites for the 08-09 program year.  If you are a non-profit agency, and you are interested in having an AmeriCorps member at your site, please send us a letter of interest.  In the letter please include how many AmeriCorps members you would like to have serving at your site and whether you would like full or part-time AmeriCorps members.  Letters will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. 

Full-time partnership contribution fee will be $6,000 for 08-09.

Part-time partnership contribution fee will be $3,700 for 08-09.
