About Us

What is AmeriCorps?

Bill Clinton signed the national and Community Service Trust Act of 1993 to expand opportunities for Americans to serve their communities.  Thus AmeriCorps was born. AmeriCorps, a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our country's critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment.

What is ShoreCorps?

ShoreCorps is the AmeriCorps program at Salisbury University.  ShoreCorps is a partnership with community-based organizations serving at-risk youth and senior citizens in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester counties.  At the ShoreCorps sites, even though each has its own purpose and structure, they are all united for a common purpose- engaging citizens dedicated to making their communities better.

ShoreCorps mission is to serve at-risk youth and senior citizens in public and private non-profit agencies. Our program strives to increase the capacity of each partner site through volunteer recruitment and management.

On the Eastern Shore of Maryland, ShoreCorps members serve in positions providing:

  • homework assistance
  • mentoring services
  • parent and family support services
  • community outreach activities
  • advocacy for senior citizens and caregiver support
  • fun & educational activities
  • volunteer recruitment & management to help support community activities
  • increased reach, efficiency, and effectiveness of the partner site's program

Last Social Change Requires a Commitment

ShoreCorps members embark upon a challenging experience that will have a lasting effect on their lives and the lives of people they serve.  Members receive a living allowance & other benefits! Learn more about becoming a service member with ShoreCorps/PALS.
