Just the Facts?: The Separation of Sex Education from Moral Education

Sharon Lamb is Chair and Professor of Counseling Psychology at
University of Massachusetts Boston where she teaches courses in Human
Development, Counseling Practice, and Child Abuse and Victimization.
Professor Lamb is the author/editor of 7 books and many articles on
sexual development, sex education, marketing influences on girls' and
boys' development, victimization, and forgiveness in psychotherapy. Her
books have won two awards: the Books for a Better Life Award by the MS
Society of NY, for Packaging Girlhood, and the Society for Sex Therapy
and Research's book award for Sex, Therapy, and Kids. She is a co-author
of the American Psychological Association's Task Force Report on the
Sexualization of Girls. Her current research interests include
resiliency and sexualization, the sexual subjectivity of adolescents,
and the case for a sexual ethics curriculum. Her new Teachers College
Press book, Sex Education for Caring Schools: Creating a Sexual Ethics
Curriculum is due out January 2013. The SECS-Curriculum (Sexual Ethics for
a Caring Society) will be evaluated in high schools this Fall and is
available online for use in schools at www.sexandethics.org.
