DESCRIBE YOUR CAREER PATH:
I attempted grad school but realized that wasn't a fit for me. I came home and starting working for a government contractor at the SEC as a paralegal. I liked the work and the people. I was assigned the Enron case. It was very exciting for a 23 year old. My work ethic and productivity was recognized. Within three years, when a government position opened, I was hired permanently. I started as a grade 7 and worked my way up to a 13. I received a promotion to a 14 in 2011 and became the branch chief of my group in 2014. I've been with the SEC for 12 years and love what I do and the people that I work for.
MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU LEARNED WHILE ATTENDING SALISBURY UNIVERSITY:
'Be there' - At Salisbury, I found that if you attended classes and took a real interest in your school work and teachers, you would succeed. You just need to go! I hardly ever missed class. I've extended that into my career. I rarely take sick or vacation days and I make a point to take an avid interest in my work and my people.
WHAT CAMPUS ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS WERE YOU INVOLVED WITH?
While at Salisbury I was involved in SGA and Women's Rugby. As the captain of the Women's Rugby team, I learned a great deal about leadership and working with many different personalities with competing goals. It also taught me a lot about time management. Working, playing sports and attending classes takes a lot of organization and the ability to multi-task, which are qualities that have helped me in my career.
BEST COLLEGE MEMORY:
I have many fond memories of Salisbury and the majority include my roommates and all of my rugby teammates.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SALISBURY UNIVERSITY?
I chose Salisbury because it was affordable for my family, provided the major that I was interested in and was close enough to 'home' but far enough away that I felt like I was 'going away to school'.
IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE SALISBURY UNIVERSITY IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?
Looking Forward - while I was there, the staff was always talking about new things in their field and really ahead of the field.
FAVORITE VACATION SPOT AND WHY?
Each summer my family takes a 'Friend'cation to Emerald Isle, NC. We rent condos or a house and spend the days on the beach and the nights at the pool and watching movies. It's nice to spend that quality time with them.
My career and my family (both which I love).
WHAT IS SOMETHING PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I'm certified to scuba dive.
CrossFit and Running
