MAJOR FIELD OF STUDY: English: Writing and Rhetoric
CURRENT EMPLOYER: Watermark
CURRENT OCCUPATION: Internet Marketing Specialist
DESCRIBE YOUR CAREER PATH:
Shortly after I graduated I began working as the Events Editor at a city/regional magazine. After a year, I left the magazine to pursue an opportunity with an Internet start-up in the real estate space where I was brought on as the second employee to write and create content. Working at a start-up also meant lots of beta testing, customer relationship management, collaborating ideas with engineers, branding development and learning Internet marketing on the fly. The company went on to sell for $13M. My writing and marketing experience led me to my current role as an Internet Marketing Specialist for a tour company in Annapolis. I manage several websites, write content, drive website traffic, write press releases, coordinate media requests, handle social media marketing and more.
MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU LEARNED WHILE ATTENDING SALISBURY UNIVERSITY:
As an English major, I read a lot of American literature. It made me more aware of the historical experiences of our society and helped me become more open minded, informed and compassionate.
WHAT CAMPUS ACTIVITIES/ORGANIZATIONS WERE YOU INVOLVED WITH?
I wrote for the Flyer and interned in the Public Relations office.
BEST COLLEGE MEMORY:
Going to school with my twin brother, Tommy. Academically, I always enjoyed my creative writing classes.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SALISBURY UNIVERSITY?
I chose Salisbury because it was just the right size college I was looking for: not too big, not too small. I wanted to be in a small class where my professor would learn my name and I could get to know my classmates. My older brother and sister both went to Salisbury and loved it and their opinions carried a lot of weight for me as a teenager. Also, it was close enough to home where going back for the weekend was an option but far enough away that I felt independent.
IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE SALISBURY UNIVERSITY IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?
Beautiful, fun, inspirational.
FAVORITE VACATION SPOT AND WHY?
Costa Rica. Gorgeous, perfect beaches, delicious food.
My greatest accomplishment is fundraising for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation in my twin brother Tommy's memory. Tommy is also a Salisbury alumni (Class of 2009). Tommy passed away in 2011 from complications due to Crohn's disease. Since his passing, my family -- including my two older siblings Colleen Redmiles Isett (SU Class of 2000) and Matthew Redmiles (SU Class of 2003) -- and several of Tommy's friends from SU have hosted the T-Red Memorial Golf Classic. The tournament has raised over $54,000 for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation and the Thomas H. Redmiles Scholarship for students in the Perdue School of Business. Because so many of the people on the planning committee went to SU, the tournament is a bit of a Salisbury reunion. The 5th Annual T-Red Memorial Golf Classic is coming up soon on Thursday, September 24, 2015. Held at the private course The Golf Club at South River in Edgewater, MD, the tournament is a lot of fun and nicely put together. Enjoy golf, food, an orange crush station, prizes and a great silent auction. Affordable sponsorship opportunities are available and donations to the silent auction are always appreciated.
