Frequently Asked Advising Questions -
Parents
For these and other advising questions, please
encourage your student to refer to the advising website or
contact the appropriate
Advising Coordinator.
-
When will my
student be assigned an academic advisor? Students
entering SU as a freshmen or transfer
student will be assigned an academic advisor by first week
of the semester. Students can view their academic advisor
assignment in their Student Center account via
Gull Net.
-
What Catalog
should my student follow?
Students entering SU as a freshmen or transfer
student from any schools other than Maryland schools
must use the SU catalog of the
year they enter SU. Students
transferring from Maryland
colleges may use an SU catalog in effect
during a semester when the student matriculated at a
Maryland school. All students may choose to move to
a newer catalog but must graduate under a
catalog no later than seven years.
-
What if my
student wants to change advisors? Although not common,
sometimes students find that another faculty advisor is a
better fit for them. If your student wants to change their
assigned advisor, they need to first contact the academic
department for permission and to complete the appropriate
paperwork.
-
What if my
student changes his/her major? When students change
their major at SU, they will also be reassigned to a new
advisor within their new academic department.
-
What requirements does my student need to complete
in order to graduate?
Your student should be encouraged to work with his/her
advisor to understand the requirements for his/her academic
major. Additionally, your student must complete all
Salisbury University
general
education requirements and
graduation requirements.
