New Student Experience Trip |
What brought you to SU?
I found Salisbury University thanks to softball coach,
Margie Knight. I played travel softball in high school and
was recruited to play here. When I came to check out SU, I
felt at home. As a prospective biology major, I loved Henson
Hall with its state of the art architecture and technology.
Also the Common's cuisine and the residence halls were above
any other school I had visited. All things considered, I
felt it was easy to picture myself at SU so here I am now!!
What are you involved in? How did you get involved?
I am involved in a lot of things at Salisbury. I'm the
president on the Medical Careers Society. I became a part of
that because I plan to attend medical school after
graduation. It's a great way to share experiences, do
community service, and enjoy the company of other
professional health students. I am also involved with the
Office of New Student Experience. This office is responsible
for running the SU freshmen orientation programs. I have
been a peer leader for two years and help showcase these
trips during open houses. Many of the friends I went on my
orientation trip with are still close friends now, so if you
can do one of these programs I highly recommend it. In
addition I am a senator in SGA, a member of the Alpha Omega
Biology Society, the Tri Beta Biological Honors Society, and
the Psi Chi Psychology Honors Society.
The great part about getting involved is the people you
meet, followed by the great experiences you have.
What does SU mean to you?
Salisbury University means many different things to me.
Some of the words that come to mind are personal growth,
opportunity, leadership, potential, academic development,
and responsibility. As an out-of-state student, it
means learning to become an independent adult in a thriving
community with plenty of support. I've made a lot of
connections with faculty, staff, and other students as a
result of the smaller college environment. However, SU
provides an enormous amount of opportunities and services
for students of all attitudes and backgrounds, so I feel I'm
getting a "big prize in a small package". I believe I
couldn't have picked a better place to get my college
education!
