Stafford Loan Step-By-Step

Step One: Complete Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling

  • Student - Go to StudentLoans.gov. (Note: This is the U.S. Department of Education’s official student loan website, which has a .gov extension. Do not use StudentLoans.com, which is a commercial website.)
  • Click on Sign In - Student signs in with an FSA ID and password. If the student borrower does not already have an FSA ID, they will need to create one through fsaid.ed.gov   
  • Click on Complete Counseling. 
  • Click on Entrance Counseling. 
  • Select Salisbury University
  • Select Student Type of Undergraduate
  • Complete all steps and submit. Our office will be notified, electronically, within 1-2 working days.

Step Two: Complete Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note

  • Click on Sign In
  • Student - Go to StudentLoans.gov. (Note: This is the U.S. Department of Education’s official student loan website, which has a .gov extension. Do not use StudentLoans.com, which is a commercial website.)
  • Student signs in with an FSA ID and password. If the student borrower does not already have an FSA ID, they will need to create one through fsaid.ed.gov  
  • Click the Complete Master Promissory Note.   
  • Click the Complete Subsidized/Unsubsidized MPN.   
  • Complete all four steps.
  • Make sure to click “Submit” at the end of the MPN to ensure the information is electronically sent to the Direct Loan Servicing Center. Our office will be notified, electronically, within 1-2 working days.
