HOW TO RESPOND TO YOUR OFFER

To respond to your 2013-14 academic year aid offer you will need to print, read and fully understand this section before taking action on your aid offer. Failure to do so may cause errors resulting in delays in your ability to obtain funding for your education. 

The electronic Financial Aid Award Notification lists the financial aid you may be eligible to receive if attending full-time. The amount of your award is determined by:

• federal methodology that calculates your expected family contribution (EFC), using a formula established by the U.S. Congress
• the amount of aid available at the time of awarding; and
• distribution formulas according to federal, state and University guidelines.

To obtain your Financial Aid Award Notification you will need to access your GullNet account.  Please make sure you have printed the "How To Respond To Your Offer" as it is needed to assist you in responding to your aid offer.

>As an Incoming student, you have received your GullNet username, and password and instructions from the Admission's Office on how to use Salisbury University On-line Self Service called the GullNet.

GullNet Original Password: If you changed your original password use your current password. If you lost or forgot your password, you can request a new one at the GullNet sign-in page by clicking on the “Forgot My Password” link and a new password will be sent to your e-mail account. If you sign-in GullNet and are alerted that your password has expired please follow the link provided to have it reset.

If you cannot locate your GullNet username or have any other problems accessing the GullNet, contact the IT Help Desk at 410-677-5454.  All other questions regarding your Financial Aid Award Notification should be directed to our office.

A successful Log On will open the SA Self Service menu. Follow these “breadcrumbs” to respond to your Financial Aid offer:

For information about your individual financial aid awards, click on the award name (in blue) to see a description of the award. Some awards have minimum enrollment requirements or require additional forms to complete.

Responding to Federal Grants - you will have the option to Accept this award(s). A response is required for this category of aid.

Responding to Gift Aid - gift aid awards (money you do not have to repay, such as  VA benefits, tuition waivers, SU academic scholarships, state scholarships, and private scholarships) are already "Accepted" for you.

Responding to Student Loans - you will have the option to Accept, Decline, or Accept for a Reduced amount the Direct Stafford Loans. The loans offered to you are the maximum amount you are eligible to borrow, so it is important that you think carefully about your expenses and accept only what you need. If you choose to reduce your loan offer, you must indicate the reduced amount in the accept box. You may not reduce your loan below $200. If you are offered both the Direct Stafford Subsidized Loan and the Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan and wish to accept your loan for a smaller amount you MUST reduce the Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan first. A response is required for this category of aid.

Responding to a Parent (PLUS) Loan - if you are a dependent student and a PLUS loan is offered on your Financial Aid Notification, it indicates the maximum amount your parent  can borrow in the Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). You will notice the only option you can choose is to “Decline” the PLUS loan offer. If your parent wishes to borrow the PLUS loan they must complete and submit, to our office, the Federal Direct PLUS Information form (PDF).  On this form, your parent will have the opportunity to indicate the amount they wish to borrow, up to the maximum amount indicated in the aid offer. Our office will “Accept” the PLUS loan for the parent upon receipt of this form.

Please note that the U.S. Department of Education-Direct Loan Service Center will conduct a credit check on the parent borrower before eligibility is determined (the earliest this can be done is late May). Parent PLUS Loans are not based on income-to-debt ratio. Parent PLUS Loans are approved for parents who have a good credit rating. The PLUS Loan will be reported to credit agencies and becomes a part of their credit history. Parents who have an adverse credit history will not be approved. Federal regulation classifies an individual as having an adverse credit history if they are 90 days or more delinquent on any debt or the subject of a default determination, bankruptcy discharge, foreclosure, repossession, tax lien, wage garnishment, or write-off of a debt during the five years preceding the date of the credit report.

Please feel free to fax the completed form to our office at 410-543-6138. A response is required for this category of aid; either "Decline" the offer or complete and submit the Direct PLUS Loan Information Form to our office.

Responding to Federal College Work Study (FWS) - you will only have an option to Accept or Decline. If you are accepting the Work Study offer, you must complete and submit the Student Employment Experiences and Interests Questionnaire(available on your "To Do List"). A response is required for this award; either "Accept or Decline" the offer.

If you were not offered a job through the Federal College Work Study program but are interested in student employment, please visit the Career Services website. The Work Experience Office, located in Career Services maintains listings of part-time jobs on- and off-campus.

Click on the Submit button once you have made your selection(s).

 

Do you have questions about Dining Services and the Meal Plan Options?

If you choose to make future changes, they must be submitted in writing to our office. Your letter must contain your SU ID, signature, the date signed and specific instructions concerning your changes.

If you are a prospective student and have chosen not be attend Salisbury University please notify the Admission's Office at 410-543-6161.

If you are a current student and are not returning to Salisbury University please contact the Registrar's Office at 410-543-6150.

Cost of Attendance for 2013-2014 (fall/spring)

There are three types of costs involved in the financial aid process.  They are called direct costs, indirect costs and the cost of attendance. 

Direct costs are those funds which are charged directly to your student account and payable to the university. They always include tuition and fees. They will also include room and board if you are living on campus and purchasing a meal plan.

Indirect costs vary per student and are not included in your bill. These include books/supplies, transportation and personal expenses.

The cost of attendance (student budget) is the combination of direct and indirect costs.

The figures below are ESTIMATED 2013-2014 costs per year for fulltime, on-campus, undergraduate students.

NOTE: Notwithstanding any other provision of this or any other Salisbury University publication, Salisbury University reserves the right to make changes in tuition, fees, and other charges at any time such changes are deemed necessary by Salisbury University and the University System of Maryland Board of Regents.
