Discover Our Home: Holloway Hall Auditorium

Holloway Hall, the oldest structure on campus, is a historic landmark. Now the administrative office building for the University, it also houses faculty offices, classrooms and two spaces used by the performing arts, the Great Hall and the Auditorium.

Opened in 1928, Holloway Hall Auditorium was designed with a gymnasium behind the rear of the stage. It was so arranged that doors between the auditorium and gymnasium could be opened, making one large area for athletic competitions, major choral works, etc. The doors between the two now have been removed.

The auditorium was used for college assemblies; commencement, music performances, productions by the Sophanes Players (a student dramatic group) and others. The Community Concert Association and similar civic organizations also presented cultural programs there; the auditorium was the largest space of its kind in the area.

Located just inside the main entrance of Holloway Hall, the auditorium is now a modern 687-seat facility, with much of its original architectural detailing intact. Major renovations occurred in fall 2013, including new state-of-the-art sound, lighting and video projection systems, new seating and a wheelchair lift to the stage. The auditorium is now home to the SSO.
