Study Skills Workshops
The Center for Student
Achievement offers a variety of study skills workshops that are
designed to help students reach their academic potential. Please
look over the the topics we can cover and request a workshop
below.
Salisbury University's Center for Student Achievement has a
plethora of free resources to help students reach their academic goals.
Resources include tutoring, supplemental instruction, academic coaching, study
skills workshops, PRAXIS test support, as well as the TRiO ACHiEVE and Fall
Fusion programs. If you would like more information on what the CSA has to
offer, this is the workshop for you.
Do you feel like you are wandering aimlessly through a forest
of homework, papers, and exams every semester? You may need help setting clear
goals for yourself. Creating short-term goals can help you make the most of your
time and keep you on track to reach your long-term goals - graduating and
getting a job you love! If you could use some guidance creating short- and
long-term academic or personal goals, this is the workshop for you.
Adjusting to college life can wreak havoc on your sleep
schedule. You might have morning classes Monday and Wednesday, night classes
Tuesday and Thursday, and a work schedule that changes every week. How do you
keep up with classes, homework, a social life, and still have time to sleep?
Come to the CSA's workshop "Is Your Sleep in Jeopardy?" to find out.
We here at the CSA know that not all students learn the same
way. Some are visual learners, some are verbal learners, and some might learn
best while running, listening to music, or eating. Do you know what style of
learning best suits your needs? If you don't, you could be making your life more
difficult than it needs to be. Come to this workshop to find out how to study
smarter, not harder.
Have you ever walked out of a lecture and immediately forgot
what it was even about? How often have you read a chapter from a textbook and
thought "what did I just read?" Listening and Reading are not as easy as you
think! If you would like tips on how to get the most out of your lectures and
reading assignments, this is the workshop for you. Just remember, more you learn
the first time around, the less you will have to re-teach yourself for the exam!
Ever wonder why you can remember all the lyrics to that
ridiculous pop song, but can't seem to remember any of the vocabulary terms for
your next exam? Come to the CSA's workshop on Memory and Retention to
learn how to make your brain work for you instead of against you.
Do you get hand
cramps in class from trying to write down every word the professor says? Give
your pencil a break! There is a better way for you to take notes in class and
from your textbooks, and still get all of the information you need. If you are
never sure what to write down or how to write it, this is the workshop for you.
Finals week - the
five days all college students dread. With a little work and a lot of planning,
you too can survive finals week. Come to the CSA's "Prep for Finals" workshop to
learn how to study for your finals so that you can keep that great GPA and your
sanity.
Do you study for
hours and hours and still can't get that A? Studying doesn't have to consume
your life, and it doesn't have to be hard. We here the CSA view studying as an
art that must be learned and practiced. If you want to learn how to study
smarter, not harder, this is the workshop for you.
When you hear the
word "exam," do you immediately panic? Exams don't have to be scary. Come to the
CSA's workshop on test taking to learn some tips and tricks that will help you
perform your very best on class exams, and even standardized exams like the
GRE's, LSATS, or PRAXIS.
Are you always
turning in assignments late? Do you pull all-nighters to write a paper or study
for an exam? You need a time management intervention! Come to the CSA's workshop
on Time Management to learn how to budget your time so that you have time to do
what you WANT to do and still get done all the things you HAVE to do. (Yes, it
is possible!)
In college, your
class syllabus is your lifeline - even more than your phone (yes, I said your
phone). A syllabus might look confusing at first, but it is the road map that
will guide you through your college courses. If you need help reading your class
syllabus or just can't figure out how your syllabus could possibly be more
important than your phone (yes, I'm sure), then this is the workshop for you.
