History and Services of the CSA

The Center for Student Achievement opened its doors on September 2, 2008. The Foundations of Excellence Task Force (2006) recommended the establishment of an Academic Resource Center where students would have access to structured guidance and academic support. The Center for Student Achievement is a collaboration between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs at Salisbury University designed to help students fulfill their academic potential.

 

The CSA's Services include:

Academic Coaching - Academic Coaching is a Success Initiative where students who may be struggling academically meet one-on-one with our trained graduate assistants.  These meetings cover a variety of topics, each specialized to the student.  Students are referred by faculty, peers, family members, or staff.

Supplemental Instruction - SI is a learning enhancement program for students taking historically difficult courses.  It consists of weekly review sessions designed to supplement lectures, labs, and coursework.  The sessions are led by SI Leaders, students who have previously taken and excelled in the course.  SI Sessions are open to all students.

Tutoring – Drop-in tutoring and tutoring by appointment (for Praxis) is offered six days a week in the CSA for selected courses.  Please see the Tutoring Webpage for more information.

Workshops – Like Academic Coaching, but for a group instead of an individual student, the Workshops we offer cover a variety of topics.  The Study Skills and Time Management Workshops are historically the most popular.  Workshops are available upon request.  For more information, see our Request a Study Skills Workshop page.

Academic Recovery Program – The Academic Recovery Program helps students who have been placed on academic probation reestablish their academic stability.  The Program is a series of Workshops and/or Academic Coaching meetings.  Students who participate in the Academic Recovery Program are statistically more likely to come off academic probation and have higher GPAs than those who don't. 

Scholar Holler - The Scholar Holler Award is an academic recognition program designed to highlight exceptional students for their achievements.  Faculty and staff are invited to nominate students for Scholar Holler throughout the Fall and Spring semesters.  Each month we select a recipient, who receives a small prize and is highlighted on the CSA website and The Flyer, Salisbury's student newspaper.
