The Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel Endowment

Samuel W. and Marilyn C. SeidelIn 1997, Salisbury business man and civic leader Samuel Seidel and his wife, Marilyn Seidel, a retired nurse, gave $1 million to endow the Seidel School of Education at Salisbury University (then known as the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies).

In 1984, Mr. Seidel joined the SU Foundation Board, serving on several significant committees and eventually serving as president. During his time on the Board, the Foundation grew from $200,000 to $17 million, making Salisbury University the largest endowed comprehensive university in the University System of Maryland.

Mrs. Seidel, who retired as an operating room nurse, maintained high interest in nursing education and endowed a nursing scholarship at the University.

Before his death in 2001, the visionary Mr. Seidel said, "The real goal of the endowment is to get good people into education."
