Bobbi Biron Theatre Scholarship

Eligibility

Accepted and incoming SU freshmen with a declared theatre major and track are eligible to audition for a Bobbi Biron Theatre Scholarship. To be considered, the following are required.

Requirements: What You Need To Do

• SU Admissions Application. Submit online application by December 1 for Freshman Early Action December 1 or January 15 for Freshman Regular Decision. 
• Appointment. Schedule a performance audition or portfolio review through Dr. T. Paul Pfeiffer, Artistic Director of the Bobbi Biron Theatre Program, by filling out the form at the bottom of this page. You will be contacted to schedule the audition time.  These are held at Salisbury University in the Fulton Hall Black Box Theatre (directions) or, when available, at regional high school festivals. 
• Biron Scholarship Application. Submit application located at the end of this page. 
• Performance Audition or Portfolio Review by appointment only; videos are not accepted. Demonstrate technical facility, interpretive and communicative skills, intelligence and choice-making, artistic potential and presence, and a sense of humor when appropriate.
• Résumé. Bring four copies of one-page that provides a goal statement, training and experience, and special skills or abilities. 
• Brief Interview following audition or review with the members of the faculty.  

How to Prepare

• Performance Audition.  Introduce yourself and what you will do; perform a 60 to 90 second classical or contemporary monologue; end in a clear, strong, definitive manner.

  Work with your drama teacher to select material that suits your age, type, and facility with language and ideas. Pay attention to enunciation and pronunciation, vocal and expressive choices, character type, and storytelling to create a believable character.  Be prepared to discuss the theme or central idea, the emotional intent or mood of the selection, and what the character is attempting to communicate. What artistic choices did you make and why?

• Portfolio Review. Introduce yourself and what you will present; discuss a selected work from your design or technical portfolio to discuss in two-minutes. End in a clear, strong, definitive manner.

  Seek help from your design or technical director to select and focus on one work. Consider scenery (perspective renderings, storyboards, drafting, research materials, elevations, model photos, concept statement, and paperwork), costume (swatched costume renderings, sketches, research material, photos, concept statement, and paperwork), or lighting (studies, storyboards, research, lights plot, production photos, concept statement, and paperwork).
