Student Grievance Procedures for Decisions Made by the OSDSS
Informal Grievance Process
Students with questions or a grievance about a decision made by the University related to reasonable accommodations should first communicate with the Coordinator of the Office of Student Disability Support Services (OSDSS). The University and the student may agree to resolve any grievance informally at any time during any formal or informal process.
Formal Grievance Process
A student or the University may elect to proceed to a formal grievance process at any time.
- Step One
Students who wish to formally appeal accommodation decisions must submit a written appeal letter to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, or designee. Written appeals should clearly define the basis of the appeal and a proposed resolution to the situation. Any relevant documentation should be enclosed with the appeal. The Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, or designee, will develop an appropriate investigational process depending on the circumstances surrounding the reasonable accommodations grievance. The Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, or designee, will respond to the student filing the appeal in writing within fifteen (15) working days of receiving the appeal.
- Step Two
If the response of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, or designee, is not satisfactory to the student, he or she has five (5) working days, following their receipt of response, to file an appeal with the Vice President of Student Affairs. All prior written responses related to the appeal should be enclosed with this appeal. The Vice President will respond to the student filing the appeal in writing within fifteen (15) working days of receiving the appeal. The decision of the Vice President of Student Affairs is final.
Federal and state laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, gender and other impermissible criteria. These laws affect students, faculty and staff. Information about a student’s rights under federal anti-discrimination statutes may be obtained from the Student Affairs Office or President’s Office. The following individuals are also available to receive complaints or to provide information regarding compliance with the conditions set forth in this legislation.

Complaints Against Staff
Complaints of discrimination and harassment against students will be adjudicated under the Salisbury University Code of Conduct disciplinary process. For complaints reported or documented against students participating at University affiliates (for example, a clinical affiliate or teaching site), the University will attempt to promptly resolve the complaint with the affiliate and the student. If necessary, the University may also work with the affiliate to assist in the investigation and adjudication of the complaint under the affiliate’s process.
