My areas of specialization are 19th- and 20th-Century European Philosophy and Political Philosophy (with special emphasis on Heidegger, Gadamer, Arendt, Adorno, Foucault, Rawls, and Bourdieu). I also have interests in Ancient Greek Philosophy, Early Modern Philosophy, Islamic Philosophy, and Philosophy of Art and Literature. Currently my research focuses on the influence of Aristotle on the philosophies of Heidegger, Gadamer, and Arendt. I am especially interested in the problem of the theory-praxis divide, particularly questions of the proper relation between how we make sense of the world and how we live and the proper relation between science and ethics. I am also collaborating in an interdisciplinary project that develops a hermeneutic method of psychological therapy. I teach courses in Political Philosophy, Ethics, and Ancient Philosophy.

I had my education in various countries including Turkey, Canada, Germany, and the U.S. My international experiences deeply inform every aspect of my research and teaching.
