The program is created by the Perdue School of Business, in collaboration with the Austral Group in Buenos Aires to offer students an opportunity to experience Argentina’s fast changing economy and society. You will have the opportunity to visit Buenos Aires, one of the most beautiful cities in Latin America. Located in the southern hemisphere, Argentina has a very warm and usually sunny month of January. From Buenos Aires, students will be able to organize their own visits to other cities such as Montevideo [Uruguay] as well as other touristic areas such as the Iguazu Falls, Punta Del Este or Patagonia. Buenos Aires is one of the key members of Mercosur [Mercado Común del Sur] and is home to a number of multinational corporations, including,Peugeot Citroën Argentina, GlaxoSmithKline Argentina and Molinos Rio de la Plata to name just a few.
The Courses: BUAD 396 Business Studies Abroad (Doing Business in Latin America) is open to any student (Business and non-business major). There is no prerequisite.
Study of the international aspects of business management and the environment of international business. This course focuses on the emerging markets in Latin America. It provides a balanced coverage of current business and political issues in these countries. The main objective is for the students to acquire a broad understanding of the way business is conducted in this part of the world. The course includes: analysis of the international business environment, case studies, guest speakers, and company’s visits; the Volkswagen plant, the Buenos Aires Harbor terminal Zarate, the winemaker Bodegas Norton. While in Buenos Aires, students will attend classes in the Austral Offices. Other time slots are reserved for guest speakers, cultural activities such as museum and city tours.
