Physical and Mental Demands
Nursing involves both theory and clinical classes. The
reading and online assignments are extensive and probably
similar to assignments in some of your previous courses. Quiz
and test items require students to apply previously learned
information and select the best course of action. The
requirements for clinical experiences are unlikely to be similar
to any course you have taken. For example, current immunizations
and current CPR at the Health Care Provider level are not
commonly required for non-nursing clinical courses but they are
required for participation in clinical courses.
Clinical nursing requires direct nursing care in area agency
settings. Generally students will be in a clinical setting
between two and four times a week and in the classroom three
days a week.
The following are examples of the everyday demands clinical
nursing courses can put on students and faculty. Any prospective
or current student who has a concern about their ability to meet
any of the course work requirements or clinical nursing
functional abilities mentioned herein should contact the chair
of the nursing department to discuss their concern and any
relationship their concern may have to the completion of nursing
course work, clinical requirements, and/or licensure.
