Classical Guitar Festival and Competition
April 8-9, 2011
Welcome
On April 8 and 9, 2011, Salisbury University will host its
third annual Classical Guitar Festival and Competition, offering
participants the opportunity to play in masterclasses, a
competition, the Festival Ensemble. There are activities for all
levels and age of player, as well as for parents of
participants.
The Festival begins on Friday April 8 with an evening recital
by Robert Trent, continues all day Saturday April 9 with classes
and the competition, and concludes with a recital by Javier
Calderon.
Highlights this year:
Beginners Welcome!
This year the festival introduces a Guitar from Scratch class
for those who are new, or have recently started to learn guitar.
The class will take place from 10:00 am to 11:15 am on Saturday
April 9. Accompanying parents welcome.

Activities for Parents
Parents are welcome to register with their son or daughter,
to attend all activities including the workshop Practicing with
your Child. Led by Zoe Johnstone Stewart, a specialist in early
childhood music education, Suzuki guitar and Music Together®,
the workshop will look at the benefits to young people of
studying music, and strategies for practicing and maintaining
motivation.
Guitars, Scores and more
Mike Kirkpatrick from The Kirkpatrick Guitar Studio will be coming to the Festival. Participants can try out the guitars and browse the many scores available for sale in the Great Hall Social Room.
Luthier David Pace will also be here with materials to demonstrate mosaic rosette construction, giving participants the opportunity to try it firsthand.
Festival Ensemble
The festival has again this year commissioned a new work for
the participants’ guitar ensemble. All students are invited to
perform in this exciting presentation of an experimental new
work by Dr. Jerry Tabor. Please click
