Dr. Linda E. Cockey

Linda CockeyDr. Linda E. Cockey is Professor and Chair of the Music Department at Salisbury University. Cockey hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano from The Catholic University of America. She has studied with William Fairlamb, Susan Starr, Bela Nagy, Barbara English Maris and Thomas Mastroianni. Locally, she has performed concertos with the Salisbury Symphony under the baton of Thomas Elliot and, in solo and duo-piano recitals, has performed at Longwood Gardens and other concert venues in the mid-Atlantic region.

Cockey is known nationally for her research on musician wellness. Her annotated bibliography on musician wellness is published annually in the American Music Teacher journal. She was invited to present her wellness research at the Music Teacher’s National Convention, The Maryland State Music Teacher Association’s annual conference and at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, New York. Cockey was recently contacted by Reginald Gerig, author of Famous Pianist’s and Their Technique to update his bibliography for a new publication of the text with Indiana University Press that will come out sometime in 2006.

Cockey is also known for her research on Johann Christian Bach, having published articles and given national presentations on Bach’s life and works. Mellen Press has accepted her publication on a book dealing with Bach and his artistic circle of friends.

Cockey holds memberships in the Music Teacher’s National Association (where she is also a nationally certified teacher), the Maryland State Music teachers Association, The College Music Society, the American Musical Instrument Society and The National Association of Schools in Music. She is a committee member for the National Keyboard Pedagogy Conferences and was name to membership in Who’s Who Among American teacher in 2002 and 2004. At Salisbury University, Cockey teachers studio piano, group piano, music history, form and analysis and a wellness in performance class for majors and minors in music.
