Information
Positions Held
- Teacher of French I, II, III, IV at
Wicomico High School in Salisbury, MD
Dr. White was the only French teacher at Wi Hi and
thus taught all levels of French and served as
advisor to the French Club. She also coached
cheerleaders.
- Professor of French, Department of
Modern Languages, Salisbury, MD
Dr. White has taught all of the basic language
courses throughout her tenure at Salisbury State.
She also teaches Intermediate Composition,
Intermediate Conversation and French Culture and
Civilization. She also serves as an adjunct faculty
member in the Department of Education where she
teaches the Foreign Language Methods course at both
the undergraduate and graduate level which is often
combined with the methods course for English as a
Second Language. She supervises French and Spanish
secondary education students during their
internships in public schools. She also teaches a
French culture course for the Perdue School of
Business during their bi-annual trips to France
during the winter term. She shares advisor
responsibilities with Dr. Gerry St. Martin for LE
Cercle Français and La Société Française.

Dissertation: Certification of Immersion Teachers in
the United States
At the time of her dissertation, Dr. White found
that there was no state certification available in
the United States for those teachers teaching in
immersion programs i.e. elementary education
programs taught in a foreign language. She surveyed
teachers and administrators in all the immersion
programs regarding what criteria were currently
being used and what ideal criteria might be.
Areas of Interest
- Foreign Language Education - Dr. White serves as
a consultant and presenter at local, regional and
national conferences in the areas of teaching for
proficiency, information gap activities, teaching
reading, teaching writing and assessment.
- French history and civilization - Dr. White
teaches history and civilization from a historical
and cultural point of view, integrating art, music,
politics and daily life into the classroom
experience.
