About Us

From the Dean...

Salisbury University's Blackwell Library has four major goals:

-to serve students;
-to acquire scholarly resources;
-to teach their effective use; and
-to serve as a focal point of learning,
scholarship, interaction and invention
among students, faculty and staff.

Dr. Beatriz Hardy

Dean of Libraries & Instructional Resources

Library Use

thomson reuters

  • Library use rises 81% since 2001.
  • 371,237 users entered the building in 2011, compared to 270,153 in 2005.

Library Instruction Increases 217% since 2005

The library is more than the sum of its resources. It is a place to study, view art, refine the art of research, collaborate, borrow a laptop, use technology meaningfully, get online research assistance, create a display, work on a project, get a book to read, and meet friends. Outside of the classroom, it is Salisbury University's academic commons: a center for learning, discovery and interaction.

The library supports each student (freshman through graduate, commuter and resident) and every academic program.  Librarians are research advisers in online classes and in living/learning communities, academic advisers, contributors to faculty research, and central to academic initiatives: diversity, freshman seminars, learning goals, and undergraduate research.

A gift to the library is a gift to the entire University, to every student, and to all
academic programs.

Other On-Campus Help

  • From the Writing Center
  • At the University Writing Center (directly above the Fireside Lounge in the Guerrieri University Center), trained consultants are ready to help you at any stage of the writing process. It is often helpful for writers to share their work with an attentive reader, and consultations allow writers to test and refine their ideas before having to hand papers in or to release documents to the public. Visit the writing center or its website at www.salisbury.edu/uwc.
