Speaker Program & Schedule

ROOMS

Wicomico Room: Just inside the entrance as you enter from the main parking lot for the Guerrieri Center.

Nanticoke Room: Second floor of the Guerrieri Center. Take the elevator on the right near the end of the hall as you enter from the Guerrieri parking lot. Exit and turn left for the room.

Worcester Room (Spring Luncheon): Second floor of the Commons Bldg. Use the elevator near the entrance to the first floor dining area. Exit on second floor, turn left, and go to the farthest room.

PARKING

Parking in the Guerrieri (off Dogwood) and Asbury Church lots requires a green parking permit. These can be purchased at the side entrance of the College Police Station at the corner of Power and Wayne Sts. (Power St is one block north of Milford St). Tell the clerk you are with the IRP.

The IRP Program Committee arranges a speaker for each meeting. Speakers include regional business and civic leaders, SU faculty members, and others, who share their expertise (sometimes outside the bounds of their specific discipline) and life experiences. Lectures are informative, fascinating and entertaining.

Unless otherwise noted, all meetings will start at 2:00 p.m. Tuesdays in the Nanticoke Room, Guerrieri Center, Room 236.

Special Winter Alert: IRP meetings will be canceled to coincide with the closing of Wicomico County Schools and/or Salisbury University.

January 29

Welcome, members and visitors to the IRP’s first meeting of the Spring Semester. Coffee, tea, and cookies will be served. Dr. Renee Fredericksen, Director of the Caregiver Resource Center at the MAC Center, will talk about the resources that are available to caregivers through this office which provides guidance on what to expect as a caregiver, where to get help for things like home modifications, and the importance of respite for caregivers. Patrick Cavanaugh, Owner of Cavanaugh Ford, the predecessor to Sherwood Ford in Salisbury, will share "The History of the Edsel" - Not one of Ford Motor Company's finest hours. Introduced by Sonnye Henry

Major Ken Morris, Corps Officer of the local Salvation Army serving Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset Counties, will speak on an historical perspective of the national and local Salvation Army activities and special services as well as volunteer activities for seniors. Introduced by Tom Mace

Jennifer Dittmar, Stranded Animal Coordinator of the National Aquarium, will speak about the National Marine Animal Rescue Program (MARP) along the Maryland coastlines. Introduced by Mary Jean Crandall

Ann M. Foley, Author, "One Scribe's Life" - How one escaped an urban business life, settled on an Eastern Shore Island and broke into print in a book about the history of Elliott Island in Dorchester County, Maryland. Introduced by Sonnye Henry

Matt Maciarello, State's Attorney for Wicomico County, will discuss the types of crime experienced by citizens of Wicomico County and law enforcement's efforts to identify, arrest and prosecute offenders. The talk will cover the multidisciplinary approach that is being applied to address violent crime, child abuse, drug distribution, and crimes against vulnerable adults. The office's successful crime prevention efforts will be discussed. Introduced by Sue Bellacicco
