The Henson School of Science and Technology annually awards
sixteen scholarships to students majoring in programs offered by
the following departments:
- Biological Sciences
- Chemistry
- Geography & Geosciences
- Health Sciences
- Mathematics & Computer Science
- Nursing
- Physics
Four $3,000 scholarships and twelve $2,000 scholarships are
awarded each year and are renewable as long as the student meets
the eligibility criteria for the scholarship. Ordinarily,
students are awarded a Henson Scholarship either as incoming
Freshman or as rising Juniors. Such students are designated as
Henson Scholar.
Henson Scholars are expected to present and maintain an
excellent academic record, display active personal and career
development, as well as participate in community service.
Once a student is named a Henson Scholar, the scholarship is
renewed on a semester-by-semester basis as long as the student
continues to major in one of the Henson School programs and
maintain a GPA of at least 3.3 (for the $2,000 award) or 3.5
(for the $3,000 award).
It is expected that the Henson Scholars will consist of three
freshmen, three sophomores, five juniors, and five seniors. So,
under ordinary circumstances, initial scholarship awards will be
made to three incoming freshmen and two rising juniors.
To be considered for a $3,000 Henson Scholarship an incoming
freshman must have a high school GPA of 3.5 and combined SAT
score of 1310. To be considered for a $2,000 Henson Scholarship
an incoming freshman must have a high school GPA of 3.3 and
combined SAT score of 1230.
All rising juniors with a GPA of at least 3.3 (for the $2,000
award) or at least 3.5 (for the $3,000 award) are eligible for a
Henson Scholarship and must have a letter of recommendation from
their department.
A scholarship board, consisting of the Dean and
representatives from each of the Henson School's departments,
selects Henson Scholars from those nominated by a Henson School
department or the Admissions Office.
