Internships Available at Delmarva Discovery Center

The Delmarva Discovery Center, a nonprofit cultural, historical, and natural learning center in Pocomoke, Maryland is seeking interns for Spring 2014.

Program Assistant / Husbandry Aide

Duties:

    Care and safety of animals in DDC collection

    Responsible for the care and maintenance of DDC exhibits and animal collection on Aquarist’s days off

    Maintaining equipment and supplies used in educational programming

    Maintaining cleanliness of the center and maintaining safe environment

    Supporting and training other staff, volunteers, interns as needed

    Assist Director of Education in developing and implementing various educational programs

    Develop and conduct interpretive programs for a variety of age groups

    Perform birthday parties, overnights, festivals, and other educational programs/outreach as assigned

    Assist with curriculum development

    Assist with supplemental educational programming, especially Afterschool Academies

    Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

    Ability to work independently

    Flexible schedule

    Ability and desire to learn new skills

    CPR certification desired

    Experience in working with animals

    Experience in working with aquariums

    Experience in performing environmental educational programs

 

Heritage Programming/Curatorial Intern

Duties:

    Develop Heritage/Historical programming using the resources of the Delmarva Discovery Center and though our partners

    Inventory and catalog materials and artifacts donated to the Delmarva Discovery center

Qualifications:

    Ability to work independently

    Flexible schedule

    Ability and desire to learn new skills

    Strong interest in heritage and history of Delmarva

 

While these are unpaid internships, the DDC will work with students to obtain academic credit (if applicable); we encourage our applicants to seek credit for the internship through their internship coordinator.
