The Department of Art at Salisbury University is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Sculpture. This is a tenure track position.

Area of Specialization: Sculpture

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: Teach three sculpture classes per semester with a total of 18 contact hours of teaching per week. Maintain studio and equipment in Sculpture, and implement and adhere to safety protocols. Academic advisement and departmental committee work are required. Continuing professional activity at a level appropriate to the teaching load is also expected. Utilize effective teaching and classroom management strategies, enhancing the success of diverse learners and supporting a diverse student body.

Minimum Qualifications: MFA before date of hire with an emphasis in Sculpture or related field, a minimum of two years teaching experience at the college level (i.e. beyond graduate school), and evidence of high level creative production, including a substantial exhibition record. Specialization in a specific medium should be complemented by the ability to teach across a range of 3D techniques including various modeling, casting, and construction methods, and possibly 3D printing.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The candidate should be able to work within a multi-disciplinary shop environment and is responsible for equipment maintenance with the aid of a part-time studio tech. The teaching load includes Sculpture I as well as Intermediate/Advanced Sculpture courses. Sculpture I is required for all Art BFA majors, and so the candidate should be prepared to work with majors from all areas of the department. Leadership duties in the Sculpture BFA track include curriculum management, participation in department recruiting efforts, and building the number of Sculpture majors.

Appointment will be contingent upon verification of eligibility to work in the U.S. and is expected to begin August 20, 2015.

This position is based in Salisbury Maryland. Founded in 1925, Salisbury University is one of 13 institutions that compose the University System of Maryland. Salisbury University is a selective undergraduate institution with the University System of Maryland. The Department of Art comprises approximately 200 majors and 19 full time faculty members. The department enjoys a great deal of support from the university administration, including two galleries–one on campus, the other in downtown Salisbury–exhibiting the work of national and regional contemporary artists. The University is close to ocean beaches and the Chesapeake Bay and 2-3 hours from the metropolitan areas of Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Norfolk. SU has been cited nationally as one of the top ten public regional universities in the North according to the U.S. News and World Report, and has also been recognized by the Princeton Review and Kiplinger’s magazine. SU has 388 full-time faculty members serving a student population of approximately 8,600.
