Salisbury University (SU) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Horticulturalist (Zone2).

Primary Job Duties: Provide expertise and leadership pertaining to the field of horticulture supporting and continuing development of a well-maintained and diversified arboretum. Duties to include planning/planting and maintenance of exterior display beds, maintain campus grounds, and management of arboretum plant records (BG Base/BG Map computer programs). Responsible for the management of a team to maintain the exterior grounds of a specified area/zone.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Horticulture, Biology, Botany, Agronomy, or a related major and three to five years of relevant experience. A Maryland Pesticide Applicators License and proficiency in the BG Base/BG Map computer program as well as the completion of a nationally recognized Horticulture training program or internship, i.e. Longwood Gardens, Stonecrop Gardens, Disney, or Wave Hill, etc. are preferred.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of a broad plant palette is required. Artistic landscaping and design skills are a plus. Thorough knowledge of ornamental horticulture in all phases, plant propagation, and cultivation. Must have demonstrated knowledge of advanced pruning techniques (hedges, trained vines, roses, etc.). The candidate must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and have the ability to work well independently and in a team oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to supervise groundskeepers and student employees as appropriate.
