Things to Consider:

Environmental Studies (ENVR) students can gain valuable experience in the field—and fulfill the Environmental Experiences component of the major—through internships. Internships provide an opportunity to learn in a work setting. A time commitment of 45 hours of on-site work per credit hour is required. Therefore, a three-credit internship typically requires supervised work of approximately 10-12 hours a week for 14 weeks during a regular semester, or 135 hours of work in a summer or winter term. Students may sign up for three, four, five or even six credits, if it fits their schedules.

An internship is not the same as a research project or a directed study – an internship must involve student placement with a supervisor in a work setting, learning new material and skills. In the past few years, ENVR students have interned at organizations as diverse as the Colorado Sierra Club, National Park Service, National Forest Service, Maryland Coastal Bays Program, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, MD Department of the Environment, Horn Point Laboratories, Chesapeake Bay Trust, Sussex County Preservation Office, Montgomery County Department of the Environment, Old Growth Forest Network, Adrenaline High (an eco-tourism company), Bienvenidos a Delmarva (an immigrant outreach consortium), and the Salisbury Zoological Park, among others. ENVR students have also taught environmental education in a Peruvian orphanage, worked at environmental education camps, and interned on several organic farms.

Students can set up internships in the Salisbury area during the fall or spring, or literally anywhere in the world during the summer. Internships are student-generated - with the assistance of Environmental Studies faculty, SU Career Services staff, and a little research, there are a myriad of possibilities in addition to the organizations mentioned above.

To create an internship,

  1. Think. Internships can provide many benefits—an experiential learning opportunity, a way to explore possible jobs, a way to fill in holes in your own learning, a way to develop a network of like-minded people. Consider your own interests: What are you passionate about? What piques your interest? What type of job do you think you’d like to have? What area of learning would you like to learn more about?

  2. Search. We recommend a number of avenues:

    • Keep your eye out for (mostly) weekly internship/volunteer/ENVR news emails that we sends out to majors and minors
    • Talk to your ENVR Studies professors
    • If you have specific organizations in mind, contact them directly and see what you can set up.
    • Contact SU Career Services. Their student internship main menu can be found here and their current internship alerts here.
  3. Define/plan. Talk with the sponsoring organization and Ms. Tossey to work out a plan that spells out hours, expectations, and potential final products. An internship has to involve educationally productive work – not just filing papers, stuffing envelopes, or mopping floors, for instance. To help get you started, Career Services provides general SU guidelines for internships.

  4. Commit.

Spring 2018 Environmental Education Internship

The Maryland Coastal Bays Program is seeking qualified applicants for a spring internship that focuses in environmental education and interpretation. We are looking for highly motivated students majoring in environmental science, environmental studies, biology, education, or other related fields. The chosen intern will work one-on-one with the Education Coordinator and all their projects and programs.

The goal of this internship is for the intern to not only gain experience in lesson planning and program development and delivery, but to learn the inner workings of the Coastal Bays Program, meet local environmental partners, and expand their knowledge about the surrounding watershed.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Designing, participating in, and leading educational programs in schools, colleges, and the local community, such as afterschool programs.
  • Designing, participating in, and leading educational programs, field trips, and activities at environmental education sites, such as Assateague Island and MCBP restoration sites
  • Communication with a variety of ages and background.
  • Facilitating environmental stewardship for the benefit of the coastal bays.
  • Interpretive Education - Assist in the design and development of an outdoor environmental education site to enhance learning opportunities at a conservation property.
  • Working with leaders of local community groups to create environmental education (EE) opportunities to groups outside of school, such as church groups, gardening clubs, libraries, etc.
  • Working with other EE providers, such as Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Maryland State Park at Assateague Island, and others, to create and implement county-wide EE initiatives, teacher workshops, and field trip opportunities.
  • Working with public schools to engage students in conservation initiatives, such as repurposing non-recyclable materials and habitat restoration.

  • Ability to work outside in a variety of conditions.

Assateague Coastal Trust/Coastkeeper

has an internship opening for our annual summer “Swim Guide” project which involves water quality bacteria monitoring onboard the COASTKEEPER boat: pulling water samples, labeling and preserving water samples, and using a YSI Pro Plus water quality meter to record pH, DO, Salinity, Conductivity and water temperature, as well as observing weather and water conditions for notation in a weekly log.  At the Coastkeeper office, the intern will preserve samples using the IDEXX Quanti-Tray 2000 system for Enteroccoci, and prepare them for incubation.  The following day, the intern will analyze the water sample trays and record the results in a weekly log.  This information will then be uploaded to the Waterkeeper Alliance Swim Guide online data website and to Assateague Coastal Trust’s website.  Please visit for more information about the Swim Guide project.  You can also visit to view the MS Excel report from 2014.   In addition to this data collection, the intern will maintain an Excel spreadsheet of data from our weekly water quality monitoring trips aboard the Coastkeeper boat.  

In addition to the Swim Guide project, the intern will have the opportunity to ‘shadow’ the Coastkeeper throughout the summer for conference calls, meetings and hearings in order to learn more about the advocacy side of watershed protection.

Wicomico County Recreation, Parks and Tourism

offers ENVR internships for summer, fall, winter and spring. Lower Shore Land Trust (LSLT) Internship

The Lower Shore Land Trust is looking for an energetic, self-sufficient and creative intern to assist with the marketing and communications of our upcoming fundraisers, workshops and projects. They would work beside the Stewardship & Outreach Coordinator to do community outreach by tabling events and also assisting with monitoring properties that are permanently protected. The candidate should have a passion for the outdoors and conservation, be creative, and must have experience with website design (preferably word press), content writing for newsletters and social media campaigns. The internship will take place at our office in Berlin and hours can be flexible to accommodate work schedules. The intern will gain valuable resume-building skills through independent and collaborative website and communications management. The intern will gain critical professional development experience and networking opportunities from an established land trust. Lower Shore Land Trust will act as a professional reference to inform others of important work accomplished by the individual for our organization.  The student will work with LSLT Executive Director Kate Patton and Stewardship & Outreach Coordinator (and SU ENVR grad) Victoria Bauer to assist with related LSLT projects.  Arc GIS, Microsoft Office and familiarity with social media skills (including electronic newsletters through Constant Contact) a plus!

Specific duties include:

  • Update and develop educational materials about the benefits of native plants and pollinators;
  • Implement a communications program to promote organizational activities, particularly those associated with the annual Native Plant Celebration;
  • Assist with choosing and ordering native plants for the annual Native Plant Celebration;
  • Assist with the coordination of an event to promote the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Pemberton Park Pollinator Meadow and the Adkins Pond Nature Park Pollinator garden;
  • Update the native plant guide
  • Participate in outreach and educational events when possible.

Nanticoke Watershed Alliance

The NWA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the resources of the Nanticoke River, seeks a motivated intern (for any/all seasons--ongoing) at the NWA office in Vienna, MD. Key programs include middle school environmental education in Delaware and Maryland and the Nanticoke Creekwatchers Citizen Water Monitoring program. Interns may also assist with fundraising projects and outreach initiatives. Environmental Education Program: The Environmental Education Program includes in-class, field, and stewardship components and reaches seventh-graders in Wicomico County, MD, and Sussex County, DE. Interns--

  • Assist the Education Coordinator with Enviroscape presentations in-class and educate students about water conservation, water quality and watersheds, and connections between food, land, and people during field trips and field days in Wicomico County, MD, and Sussex County, DE.
  • Help plan and assist with field trips, field days, and student action projects, such as tree plantings, steam monitoring, and school gardens.
  • Help develop lesson materials, perform outreach to teachers/schools & present materials.

Nanticoke Creekwatchers Citizen Water Monitoring Program

is a volunteer-driven water quality program. Sampling runs from late March to early November, with a number of pre- and post-season tasks required. An intern may--

  • Assist with season kick-off: make volunteer kits, volunteer manuals, and prep equipment.
  • Help staff the End of Season Potluck in November and/or the Creekwatchers Training & Season Kick-off in March.
  • Work with Creekwatcher volunteers in the field; assist with water sample collection and lab delivery.
  • Assist Envirocorp Lab Inc. with bacteria analysis & perform data entry
  • Assist with end of season procedures: clean, test, calibrate, and inventory equipment.

Outreach Programs include Homeowner Workshops, Reclaim Our River events, and community fairs and festivals, as well as social media and website outreach. The intern may:

  • Develop social media, website content and newsletter articles aimed at environmental stewardship and topics related to natural and cultural history and recreational opportunities in the Nanticoke River watershed.
  • Help staff booths at community fairs and festivals; assist staff at outreach programs.

Migrant Clinicians Network

Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN) functions as a global organization working to eliminate health disparities among migrant and seasonal farmworkers and mobile poor populations. MCN’s Salisbury, MD office is looking for an intern to assist in special projects and research related to the Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) program. This opportunity will provide prospective intern candidates with an introduction to the fields of migrant health, environmental health, occupational health and safety, public health and public policy. The intern will develop an understanding of the unique environmental and occupational health risks migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their children encounter both in the workplace and at home. The intern will also learn about topics related to migration, environmental justice, culturally appropriate popular education, worker protections and labor policy, pesticides (exposures and health risks), and agricultural health and safety.

Internship activities can vary based on academic major and skills of the candidate, though interns may participate in a combination of the following activities:

  • Assist in the development and evaluation of grants
  • Analyze data from evaluations to help improve trainings and education materials
  • Research and catalog recent literature and public data related to pesticide exposure, occupational injury, community health workers (promotores de salud) and other topics related to EOH and migrant and seasonal farmworkers.
  • Assist in the distribution, marketing, and/or evaluation of patient education materials.

Salisbury Zoo

National Park Services Assistant

Internship description: The internship program offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain practical experience in cultural resource management programs in the National Park Service headquarters, field offices, and parks, and in other federal agencies.  Working under the direction of experienced historic preservation professionals, students undertake short-term research and administrative projects. Delmarva Discovery Center on the Pocomoke River

All semesters. A nonprofit cultural, historical, and natural learning center in Pocomoke, is looking for interns (unpaid) for credit or non-credit students. Specifically, we are looking for students who would like to undertake River Otter trainer or husbandry (directly working with our 20+ animals) internships. We are looking for individuals that are comfortable with a wide variety of animals (snakes, turtles, frogs, fish etc…), either those with prior knowledge of these animals or students who are willing to learn about them. Interns will work directly with these animals and also teach the public about them; we have summer camps, outreach programs, wildlife interpretation, after school academies, and in house programs all dealing with a variety of ages from young children to adults. Interns will be able to deliver public programs and will be able to work in collaboration with the National Park Service, Salisbury Zoo, Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge, NASA, and other aquarists and herpetologists from leading zoos and aquariums.

North American River Otter Trainer Internship Program (DDC)

  • Interns will give 45 minute long programs to visitors and scheduled school groups; also promote our “Otter Spotter” citizen science project.
  • Interns will assist with daily food preparation, cutting and weighing, icing down food, and cleaning the food prep area; help clean river otter exhibit 2-3 times a day; log daily behavior, food intake, enrichment, and exhibit cleanings; assist with vet checkups/physical exams; assist with daily enrichment/training.
  • Interns will learn the requirements of the USDA permitting process and be able to facilitate a successful routine or unexpected USDA inspection; also understand and be able to implement DDCM river otter escape protocol.

Husbandry Aid Internship (DDC)

Husbandry Aid Interns are responsible for taking care of a wide variety of native and non-native reptiles and amphibians. In addition to reptile and amphibian care, interns will learn about fresh and salt water aquarium care. Interns will write and present animal programs and lead nature hikes for visitors, among other opportunities for informal education programming. No prior experience needed! We welcome all majors to apply to our internship program. Environmental Studies and Biology students are strongly encouraged to apply. The Nature Conservancy

Established in 1951, TNC is the largest private conservation organization in the world, employing hundreds of scientists and thousands of conservation practitioners & support staff. TNC’s mission is ‘to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.’ Of our MD land holdings the 10,000-ac Nassawango Creek Preserve, stretching between Salisbury and Snow Hill, MD on the Lower Eastern Shore, is the largest and most active in terms of land management and research. Interns working with TNC staff would have opportunities to develop projects in a variety of areas of mutual interest, examples include: habitat restoration and monitoring, GIS/GPS applications, remote sensing applications, sustainable forestry, low-impact nature-based recreation, and use of dendrochronology (tree ring analysis). Pocomoke River State Park

Pocomoke River State Park could use interns in a variety of possible positions and will work out specific job duties and schedules with you. They have a variety of environmental programs offered to the public and private groups that need assistance including canoe and kayak natural history tours, topic interpretation with live animals and are open to personally built lesson plans on interested topics. They also have a monthly publication, The Pocomoke Paddler, for which they always need articles, and need someone to create promotional materials such as flyers, informational sheets, etc.  PRSP will train all interns just as if they were seasonal employees and each intern would be evaluated by permanent staff. Assateague State Park

Organic Farm Internships

Pogo’s Pantry Organic Farm intern at an organic farm only a few minutes from campus! Located on Dikes Road; take Milford Street, right at light, then immediate left. Debbie Nicholson, 443-783-8229 (phone is preferred method of contact) needs summer interns to work the farm. You’ll learn about planting, mulching, composting, tending the free-range chickens, watering, weeding, and all of the tasks that go into running an organic farm operation.

Westside Community Center: Experiential Learning and Adventure Education Program Internship

The Westside Community Center is seeking a dedicated college student searching for a unique internship experience in environmental studies and Adventure Education. Interns will have the opportunity to work with professional staff providing environmental education through a variety of curriculums such as marine biology, aquaculture, ecology, conservation, and heritage. Students will also engage in Adventure Education practices through ropes course and team building facilitation, kayaking and canoeing, archery, orienteering, and survival skills. Responsibilities will include but not limited to; interacting with participants, teaching and facilitating, leading demonstrations, guiding tours through our parks and education center, managing aquariums and touch tanks, collecting data, and assist with projects to enhance growth and development of the Experiential Learning and Adventure Education Program.

Internships more appropriate for summer

Interpretative Ranger--Summer Residential Internship Program at Pemberton Historical Park. 4 Internships available.

Interns will serve as Interpretative Rangers (camp counselors) for a ten week Nature Camp at Pemberton Historical Park. Additionally, interns will organize and manage public programs and activities for the public on Friday nights, Saturdays and/or Sundays throughout the summer in addition to serving as caretakers of Pemberton Historical Park during the summer months (i.e. park cleaning and summer camp preparations). Finally, interns will serve as weekend staff for the Pemberton Park Welcome Center which will be open on the weekends for limited hours. For more information about Nature Camp and programs visit Interns will spend 30-35 hours per week working with the Nature Camp and 5-10 hours a week (Fri-Sun) working at the Welcome Center.

     Internship Experience: Interpretive Rangers will be trained to give educational programs to all age groups. Most programming will be giving to school age children from the age of 6 to 14 during camp hours. Weekend Programming would be to all ages of the community. Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum summer internships

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., has five summer internship opportunities in 2017 for current undergraduate students--in the curatorial, communications, development, and education departments. Applications are due by Friday, February 17, 2017. Over 10 to 13 weeks, led by CBMM’s professional staff, interns will observe and engage in field-related projects and behind-the-scenes operations. Full-time interns will receive a weekly stipend; limited housing opportunities available. Midshore RIVERKEEPER® Conservancy (MRC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and protection of the waterways that comprise the Choptank River watershed, Eastern Bay, and the Miles and Wye Rivers located in Maryland. Located in Easton, MD the organization serves as an advocate for the health of these tributaries and the living resources they support. MRC strives to provide education, outreach, and restoration programs. These programs promote environmental awareness of the essential role these rivers and streams play in the community, of the issues that threaten their health and vitality, and of the solutions that must be implemented to preserve them. Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy is seeking applications for a summer internship experience.

Summer intern activities include:

Oyster Culture Internship--Horn Point 

The Oyster Culture Program at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Horn Point Laboratory ( is accepting applications for summer internships: Summer Internship in Oyster Aquaculture

Background: The Oyster Recovery Partnership and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Horn Point Laboratory, with funding from the Ratcliffe Foundation, is offering summer internships for up to two people to work with Maryland’s growing oyster aquaculture industry.  The primary duty station will be the Horn Point oyster hatchery but will include work at other locations, including commercial production facilities.  Interns will receive training in basic oyster culture including:  oyster hatchery operations, remote setting for spat on shell production, nursery methods, and oyster grow-out using a variety of  techniques that include both bottom culture and water column methods.  Interns may be expected to participate in other training opportunities provided to the industry and will learn basic oyster hatchery techniques including: broodstock conditioning, spawning, larval rearing, algae production, and setting.

Requirements: The internships require dedicated individuals and will include weekend work and irregular hours.  Applicants should be at least 17 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license and have transportation.  They must be able and willing to work in wet, muddy conditions and be able to lift heavy (>50 pounds) objects.  The objective of this internship is to train individuals for a career in commercial oyster farming in the Chesapeake Bay region.  Applicants should note that lodging and per diem are not provided or available for these positions.

Dates of Employment: The starting date is flexible but applicants should be able to begin before the end of June 2017 and will terminate by the end of August 2017, but may be extended longer with approval of all parties.

Phillips Wharf Environmental Center Marine Science Educator

Description: Phillips Wharf Environment Center (PWEC),, was created to provide a hands-on experience, especially for children, with the many species of animals and plants that live in the Chesapeake Bay. Located in the heart of the Chesapeake Bay on Tilghman Island, PWEC offers live exhibits, waterside activities, aquarium displays, tours, and field trips. Its mission is to ‘Inform, Inspire, and Involve’ those who live in the Chesapeake Bay watershed to take action on its behalf. Responsibilities: Responsibilities include maintenance and care of tanks and animals (turtles, fish, horseshoe crabs, blue crabs, etc.), preparing of the "Fishmobile" for events, giving tours of our exhibits/ Fishmobile to guests, aiding in PWEC educational events, and aiding in oyster restoration projects.

Requirements: We seek college students majoring in Education, Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or related field. The ideal candidate will be able to work at least 20 hours a week and possess a personal interest in outdoor and environmental education and health of the Chesapeake Bay. The ability to work independently as well as with a team and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Applicants must be willing to work hours beyond the standard 8-hour day on occasion. The ability to work well with both children and adults are required.

Sassfras Environmental Education Center/ Eastern Shore Land Conservancy

The Sassafras Environmental Education Center (SEEC) is an educational division of the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy (ESLC).  SEEC’s primary mission is to help close the ever-widening gap between children and the natural world by improving environmental literacy.  Partnering with the Eastern Shore’s agricultural community, Chesapeake Bay watermen, regional historians, local scientists and environmental experts, SEEC provides an ecological, geological, and biographical study of the Delmarva Peninsula.  All programs are held outdoors along forested trails, farm fields and rivers.

Qualified undergraduates will have an interest to both learn and share knowledge about the world around them.  Students must be hard-working, capable of following directions, in good physical condition, and enjoy working with people.  The most qualified applicants will be creative, and work well both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications: Must have well-developed communication skills and leadership ability; be able to work independently and as part of a team; experience collecting biological data in the field preferred.  Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing) in wildlife management, natural resources, or related field, and field work experience are desired.  Although a work vehicle will be provided for official duties, applicants must have a personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license.

Duties: Intern works closely with a team of biologists to assist with waterbird surveys, wood duck and other avian production monitoring programs.   Hens and young may be banded.  Intern will also assist biologists with impoundment maintenance and invasive plant species control on the refuge.  Other responsibilities include data entry and analysis.  Intern will have opportunities to participate in other Refuge surveys, including frog calling, woodcock and whippoorwill, and vegetation surveys.  Must interact effectively with staff and volunteers to assure quality data is collected.  On rare occasions, intern may be required to assist with various visitor services at the Visitor Contact Station.  Dormitory housing may be an option, if needed.  Work schedule will be during standard business hours, 40 hours per week, and may include an alternating schedule between Sunday-Thursday and Monday-Friday with federal holidays off.

Over the course of eight weeks the intern will observe and participate in all aspects of Pickering Creek’s educational programming – including grant funded, community-based conservation efforts and summer EcoCamp – as well as assisting with the care and maintenance of Pickering Creek’s live reptiles and preparing for the 2016-2017 school year programs. The intern will work with our science education and summer Camp Director, Krysta Hougen, to help provide great experiences in science and the outdoors, helping with experiments and exploring nature with the students. Additionally, the intern will work with Teacher-Naturalist Samantha Pitts, assisting with a habitat restoration project at Magnolia Meadows, a low-income housing development in Easton.  There the intern will help residents of the complex develop and implement a planting plan to make their complex more hospitable for both wildlife and human residents.  The intern will also work with Susanna Scallion, Pickering’s Development Manager, sharing compelling stories that connect people with nature to Pickering supporters. The intern will also help Susanna connect faith groups and community organizations to the salt marshes of Dorchester County.  The summer intern will also work closely with Jaime Bunting, Pickering Creek’s Education Manager, in curriculum assessment and development for science, natural history, and environmental education programs for both formal and non-formal educational settings.

Website: Interns will be able to assist with a variety of jobs, including developing and teaching natural, cultural, and agricultural history programs as well as environmental education courses to visiting school groups, and upkeep/management of the center's myriad properties, including the 6-acre Cedar Bog Preserve and 21-acre Isaacs Tract, owned by the Nature Society, the core area and buildings owned by the Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs, the 27-acre Lindale Tract, 12-acre Lee Tract, and the 13-acre Morton Farm, all owned by the Division of Fish & Wildlife.  The Delaware Nature Society also manages the nearby 177-acre Blair's, Savage, and Pope Tracts along Tantrough Branch, Blair's Pond, and Griffith Lake. Hiking and wildlife observation opportunities, as well as a 5K (3.1 miles) cross-country course are available on the extensive trail systems.

As their website says, “Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (CBNERR-MD) was established in 1985 with Monie Bay, a large wetland near Deal Island on the lower Eastern Shore, being the sole component. In 1990 Otter Point Creek and Jug Bay were added to the reserve. Together, these three reserve components reflect the diversity of estuarine systems found within the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay providing essential habitat for commercially as well as recreationally important fish and crabs, filtering mud from the Bay's murky waters, and protecting the shoreline from flooding. CBNERR-MD promotes educational opportunities and scientific study of these estuarine systems so that we can better manage and successfully restore these important habitats, as well as enjoy a healthy and productive Bay.” Interns will help strengthen the protection and management of the Reserve, advance Bay conservation, research and education, increase the use of science and of the Reserve sites and help address management issues.

Naturalist Internship @ The Oregon Ridge Nature Center in Baltimore.  All Semesters.  The Oregon Ridge Nature Center is a Baltimore County Recreation & Parks facility and is located in Cockeysville, Maryland. The center is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday and offers a variety of trails and exhibits featuring live animals and the history, wildlife and natural environment of the area. Public programs, school field trips, canoeing, scout programs and special events are also offered throughout the year.

Internship Description:  Oregon Ridge Nature Center is seeking responsible, motivated, and organized interns to assist with and lead hands-on, outdoor environmental education programs. Training will be provided. Other general duties include assisting with live animal care, program materials maintenance, trail and garden work, assisting park visitors and exhibit interpretation.

Qualifications:  Applicants should have an interest or pursuing a course of study in natural sciences, environmental science, science education, outdoor recreation, or related field.  Willingness to learn and perform a multitude of tasks.  Excellent communication skills.  Reliable transportation.  Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Eastern Shore Land Conservancy

Description Of Internship: In efforts to preserve the prime farmland, wildlife habitats, and unique natural assets of the Eastern Shore, ESLC helps landowners explore and implement various conservation options for their properties, such as conservation easements. To ensure the ongoing preservation of these special places, ESLC annually visits landowners and inspects preserved properties. The Land Stewardship Intern plays an instrumental role by helping ESLC carry out these responsibilities.

Qualifications: The Land Stewardship Intern will help monitor our conservation-eased properties by making site visits, observing and documenting changes to the properties and completing and filing monitoring reports for each visit. The Land Stewardship Intern also will help the Stewardship Manager assemble and organize the necessary documents (photos, maps, directions to each site, etc.) for the site visit. Administrative tasks related to the management of the stewardship files include preparing field file forms, labeling maps and photographs, and entering monitoring reports in a database. Applicants will be exposed to an asked to interpret legal documents, such as a conservation easement. The ability to read maps and orient oneself in the field is essential, as is attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Applicants should possess the ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and walk long distances through varying terrain.
