Confidentiality Statement
All client contacts and information obtained in the
course of treatment is confidential. No information will
be released without written authorization from the
client, except in the rare cases of imminent danger or
as required by law when there is a suspicion of child
abuse, elder abuse or a court order. This is in keeping
with the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of
Conduct and state and federal laws.
In certain circumstances with the permission of the
client, others may be notified about particular aspects
of services to guarantee coordination of those services
with other treatment providers. Also, others may be
notified, again, with the permission of the client, if
the counselor and client determine that it would be
helpful to the client in the course of their growth and
recovery.
The confidentiality parameters do not preclude a
concerned other, such as parent or professor, from
consulting with a professional staff member at Student
Counseling Services about their observations about a
student. The SCS staff member can provide assistance
related to problem detection, intervention, and referral
without breaching a client’s confidence.
